Replacing electrical cord

if you buy a color coded cord and plug then red and black go on thee 2 outer terminals of the power terminal and the white wire goes between these as this is the neutral connection and if it has a green ground wire connect this anywhere to the metal case of the unit, if its a gray cord with no colors then the 2 outer wire on the cord go to the outer terminals on the units power terminal block and the center wire on this cord goes to the center terminal on the unit

Need to replace 4 prong cord with a 3 prong cord on a new 500 series dryer.

On the back of the dryer, remove the screw(s) that hold the access cover to the back panel that cover the terminal block where the cord goes through the back panel and connects to the wiring terminal power block, loosen the two screws on the cord clamp the clamp it to the back of the dryer just enough to release the cord, remove the four nuts / screws that are connecting the 4 wires from the cord to the terminal block and or the back of the dryer, with the new 3 wire cord just match the colors on the terminal block with the same color wires that are connected to the other side of the terminal block, red, black on the outer most terminals and the white or green to the middle terminal, IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU PLACE A JUMPER WIRE/STRAP FROM THE MIDDLE TERMINAL WHERE THE WHITE OR GREEN WIRE CONNECTS TO THE TERMINAL BLOCK OVER TO THE CASE/CABINET OF THE DRYER, THIS CAN CONNECT TO THE CASE AT ANY AVAILABLE SCREW NEAR THE TERMINAL BLOCK! In short this means that the neutral and ground of the dryer must be connected together in a 3 wire set-up.
GOOD LUCK!

I moved to a house with a three prong outlet for my Frigidare electric dryer, model number FER341AC0, that has a four prong cord. I bought a new three prong cord but there is no color coding on the dryer...

The three wire goes on the electrical block on the back of your dryer just like the cord is made. If you look at the cord, it's made flat (Most 3 wire cord are made flat, Some are not) The wire in the middle goes in the middle of the block. The two wires to the outside go to the outside of the block. It makes do difference which wire goes on which side as long as the outside wires go to the outside.

I need to change the power cord to my dryer to fit the outlet in my new residence. Is there any specific order to how the tabs hook to the dryer on the back? They aren't color coded.

Always disconnect electricity before beginning this process.

If you are using a 3 wire cord the wires go exactly as you see them. The middle wire goes onto the middle terminal and the outside wires go to the outside terminals which one goes on which side doesn't matter.

All the 4 wire cords I have seen are color-coded. The white wire goes to the middle, the green wire goes to any screw you can reach that goes into the metal case of the dyer. The red and black go to the outside of the terminal block and I usually follow the color code of the interior dryer wiring that already exists. Good Luck.

Cord Connection

If your dryer cord is flat and gray, then simply attach the two outside wires from the cord to the left and right screws on the terminal block. Connect the center wire of the cord to the center screw of the terminal block. The only important wire is the center wire of the cord goes to the center screw of the terminal. The two outside wires don't matter.
