The SHARK ELECTRONIC Iron is equipped with an electronic auto-off. The electronic auto-off switches the iron off if it has been left standing unmoved in any position (sideways, flat or upright) for approximately 7-9 minutes. A red light on the LED display panel will flash when the iron switches itself off. (Fig. 7) To switch the iron back on, just shake the iron side-to-side several times.
SOURCE: How long should your iron last?
10 to 20 years
use distilled water
Testimonial: "I have, in the last 6/7 years had 2 Shark Irons, both did not last me 5 years. That is a far cry from 10 to 20 years. I was told to use tap water."

Pull the button up. You may have to coax it up; I pried it back to the up position with a needle. Grasp it firmly and pull it straight off (it is fitted in place by friction only). Below the button is a stem that operates the valve, gently full it back up with a pair of needle nose pliers (careful - the stem is plastic). Replace the button (align the stem into the hole on the bottom of the button. Cycle the button a few times with water in the reservoir. You should be back in the ironing business now! :) It seems like it sticks when the iron is left unused for a period of time; as if the valve sticks when dry. I'm going to leave water in it this time, although the instruction manual says not to.

Iron's have a thing called a "Thermal Fuse" these go "Faulty" or "Blow" very frequently, it is relatively simple to check and replace. Find the fuse, a small metal cylindrical thing, with a lead at each end. Use a meter set to OHMS and measure it, it should be a "Short Circuit" IE: 0 Ohms. If not it is faulty. But if it is IE: Open Circuit, NO reading, it should be replaced. It will have markings on it to denote it's type, get one the same, and replace it.
