I was taking pictures, then when I pressed the shutter release button, it took a long time. Then the error message came up. I tried pressing the shutter release button again, nothing happens. Still the error message. Thanks for your help

Massage the shutter with an earbud bylifting up the mirror by hand. Do not push or bend.
A desperate last meaasure and will invalidate any warrenty!!!
We have a temporal solution to this problem,a temporal workaround!
Turn off the camera, then set the exposure to +5 (on a D40).
This overexposes the underexposed picture.
Also set lighting to auto, and set the flash to +1
I don't know how I removed the 'shutter'-message; but when fiddling around with the device it seemed to dissapear after a while (after turning the device on and off).
This did the trick for us for now.
Dark pictures can't be taken.
It at least should help you take standard pictures,or outside in bright light!
edit on previous comment:
It's a damaged shuttermechanism.
Seemingly Nikon D40 and D70 use a very weak shutter system, that can easily get damaged by a small fall or shock, even if the casing and rest of the device seem fine.
The D40X, D60 and D80 seem to use a different shutter system.
I don't know if the newer system is more shockproof then the older though...

Press shuter release button again problem, and notify you when a new solution is offered.
same problem... pressing the shutter release button just wont work im so frustrated and disappointed.
same problem. nothing once i change lens or battery.
Error Shutter press releass button egain
I have the exact same problem. As soon as you take a picture it clicks slowly and not fully, then a black screen comes up and shortly after says, "Error. Press shutter release button again." I've replaced the battery, the lens, let it sit for a while and fiddled as much as I could and still nothing. In the manual it says to take it to the shop if the problem persists, and that is what I've done...only to be footed with a $350 bill. Nice. Any other solutions out there?!
i have D40x and it seemingly doesnt have different shutter system, because this happened to me also.. stil the shutter error message, nothing helps, any shutterbutton pressing or something.. i guess i have to go to the servis eventually
Exactly what does the error message say?Â
