Question about Duracell AAA NiMH Battery Charger with 4 Rechargeable AA Battery

1 Answer

Batteries require several charges in order to reach fully capacity

This relatively new 15 minute charger charged my batteries fully the first time but subsequent charges have yielded considerably shorter battery life. 25 hours in a headset initially then about 5 hours. I discovered if I charged the batteries more than one time in the charger I could eventually get the battery life up to the original 25 hours. The actual number of charges to reach full is more like 3-4 times in the 15 minute charger. I have not talked to duracell about this but plan to contact them for their explanation for this behavior. Why do you think the 15 minute charger is not fully charging before it shuts off?

since i wrote the above comments duracell did send me new batteries. I still charge the batteries (which are a different version) in the 15 minute charger. With the new batteries after I have charged them four at a time and let them cool, I put them i separately and find that some will charge for a minute or two longer and others will signal that they are full in short order. I believe what is occuring is that when they are bulk charged, they stop charging when the first one reaches capacity. by topping them individually they may reach their own capacity.

Is it best to keep my scooter on charge all the time or what

Lead acid or deep cycle gel batteries are best kept on trickle charge.

Take care of your batteries
How do I get the most life out of my new batteries?
To maximise the life of your batteries, it is best to complete a full charge for the first 1015 times that you use your scooter. This simply means however far you travel, do not just top-up for a short while, but complete the full charge cycle every time. Your batteries will not work at their best until this process has been carried out and will prolong power and performance. You will find the distance your scooter can travel will gradually increase over its first few weeks as your batteries reach optimum efficiency.
When is it best to charge my batteries?
After 10-15 cycles have been completed, a normal charging routine can be adopted
  • Depending on the capacity of the batteries, the charge time can vary up to a maximum of 16 hours
  • The charger will automatically shut down when the batteries are fully charged, so you do not have to worry about switching it off. This is ideal for overnight charging.
  • Whenever possible try to avoid interrupting a charge cycle. It is always best to complete a full charge cycle as excessive short term charging is detrimental to battery life.
  • For the very best results and to maximise battery life, charge fully before and after use.
  • Please refer to charger indicator lights for battery status.

How do I store and maintain my batteries?
  • If your scooter will not be used for a while or is being stored, make sure the batteries are fully charged first.
  • If your scooter is not being used, make sure the batteries receive a refresher charge every 14 weeks. Alternatively if you are planning not to use your scooter for over 6 weeks, fully charge your batteries and then disconnect.
  • Fully charge the batteries before re-use.
  • Never leave the batteries in a discharged state.
  • Avoid damp, hot or cold extremes when storing your scooter.
  • Batteries are totally sealed and do not require any maintenance apart from charging.

Charging
1.Switch off your scooter and remove key.
2.Plug charger into scooter charge socket.
3.Push charger plug into wall socket and switch socket on.
4.There will be a light sequence on the charger but as all chargers are different, refer to charger instructions.
5.Most scooters will have an inhibit mode which will shut down all the scooters electrics while the charger is plugged in.
6.Only use the charger supplied with your scooter.
7.Do not smoke or use a ***** flame while batteries are being charged.
8.Do not leave charger plugged into your scooter when the charger is switched off as this may discharge your batteries.
9.For a complete charge do not switch off, unplug or interrupt the charge cycle until it is complete.
It is worth considering that in extreme cold weather the time your batteries take to charge can increase by up to 20%. The range of your scooter will also vary based on weather conditions. Also when your batteries reach the end of their useful life, you will find that charging time will become much shorter. The amount of charge the batteries can hold will become less and less as will your scooter range until ultimately they become unusable.

Taking Care Of Your Laptop Battery

  1. Normally, a new battery pack comes in a very low charge condition and must be fully charged before use. Refer to the user manual of your portable electronic equipment for charging instructions.
  2. A new Dell Vostro A860 Battery needs to be fully charged and fully discharged or “cycled” as much as five times to condition them into performing at full capacity.
  3. Your equipment may report a fully charge condition in as short as 10 to 15 minutes when the new Dell Vostro 1015 Battery is being charged for the first time. This is a normal phenomenon especially for Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cad) and Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) chemistries. When this happens, remove the dell vostro 1015 battery pack and let it cool down for about fifteen minutes then repeat the charging procedure.
  4. “Conditioning” (fully discharging and then fully charging) is necessary so as to maintain the optimum performance of a sony vgp-bps8 battery, and is recommended at least once a month particularly for Ni-Cad and Ni-MH batteries. Failure to do so could result in reduced charge capacity and can significantly shorten the sony vaio vgn-fz battery pack’s useful life. Lithium Ion batteries do not require conditioning.
  5. It is normal for a acer aspire 1410 battery pack to get warm when charging and during use. However, if the acer aspire 1410 battery pack gets excessive hot, there may be a problem with the portable electronic equipment’s charging circuit and should therefore be checked by a qualified technician.
  6. Rechargeable batteries undergo self-discharging when left unused for long periods of time. This is normal particularly in the case of Ni-MH and Li-Ion chemistries. For best results, always store a battery pack fully charged. It should be removed from the equipment and kept in a cool, dry and clean place.
  7. The amount of runtime a hp 510 battery produces depends on the power requirements of components in your electronic equipment. This could be the hard drive setting, screen intensity and back-lighting on notebook computers, the liquid crystal display (LCD) screen and floodlight feature in a video camcorder, or the tri-mode communications network of a cellular phone. Always refer to your equipment’s user manual for power management settings.

18v 12 cordless trimmer/edger. Why won't it start?

the trimmers switch may be faulty.

CHARGING THE BATTERY PACK
Battery packs for this tool are shipped in a low charge condition
to prevent possible problems. Therefore, you should
charge them until the green LED on the front of the charger
comes on.
NOTE: Batteries will not reach full charge the first time they
are charged. Allow several cycles (operation followed by
recharging) for them to become fully charged.
CHARGING A COOL BATTERY PACK
See Figure 3.
If battery pack is within normal temperature range, the red
LED on charger will come on.
NOTE: If the charger does not charge the battery pack
under normal circumstances, return both the battery pack and
charger to your nearest Ryobi Authorized Service Center for
electrical check.
n Charge the battery pack only with the charger provided.
n Make sure the power supply is normal household
voltage, 120 volts, 60 Hz, AC only.
n Connect the charger to the power supply.
n Place the battery pack in the charger aligning raised rib
on the battery pack with the groove in the charger.
n Press down on the battery pack to be sure contacts on
the battery pack engage properly with contacts in the
charger.
n Normally the red LED on charger will come on. This
indicates the charger is in fast charging mode.
n Red LED should remain on for approximately 1 hour
then the green LED will come on. Green LED on
indicates battery pack is fully charged and charger is
in maintenance charge mode.
NOTE: The green LED will remain on until the
battery pack is removed from the charger or charger is
disconnected from the power supply.
n If both yellow and green LEDs come on, this indicates
a deeply discharged or defective battery pack.
Allow the battery pack to remain in the charger for 15
to 30 minutes. When the battery pack reaches normal
voltage range, the red LED should come on. If the
red LED does not come on after 30 minutes, this may
indicate a defective battery pack and should be
replaced.
n After normal usage, a minimum of 1 hour of charging time
is required to fully recharge battery pack.
n The battery pack will become slightly warm to the
touch while charging. This is normal and does not
indicate a problem.
n Do not place the charger and battery pack in an area of
extreme heat or cold. They will work best at normal room
temperature.
NOTE: The charger and battery pack should be placed
in a location where the temperature is more than 50°F
but less than 100°F.
n When batteries become fully charged, unplug the
charger from power supply and remove the battery
pack.

My battery is fully charged but when i turn the camera on it shuts right back off

SOunds like your battery is bad. try discharing it :
  1. Place the battery in your camera until it itself turns off. In this situation, the battery is fully discharged.
  2. Take out your battery and slide it into your battery charger.
  3. Connect your charger with power to fully charge the battery. It is normal for a new battery that battery indicator shows 100% capacity in 10 to 15 minutes. Please keep charging until there is no time left for charging.
  4. Fully charged and fully discharged or "cycled" as much as five times to condition them into performing at full capacity.
Try it and see if it works? If the batteries are not rechargeable then the problem is in the cameras power supply and you need to take it in or replace it.

Both green and yellow light stay on and batteries will not charge 18v

If both yellow and green LEDs come on, this indicates
a deeply discharged or defective battery pack.

The batteries does not hold the charge.

A few solutions for you:

1) The batteries that you are using may have reached their end of life.

2) You are using higher capacity batteries in a charger that was designed for lower capacity batteries. The charger may be a 1 hour charger that was designed for say, 1500 mAH. If your batteries are 2000 mAH, then after the same hour, the batteries may not have a full charge, and will be damaged if this were the case, and the practice continues.

3) You are using a combination of batteries and charger that isn't compatible. For example, NiCD chargers cannot charge (usually) NiMH batteries, and vice versa.

4) There is always some drain by the batteries themselves, just being rechargeables. Though, this is usually on the order of 5-10% per month, and probably is not the issue.

I would put my money on saying that the batteries are worn out. Try a new a new charger / battery combination. If that works, then either the old batteries or old charger are defective.

Battery fully charged but still shutting down when disconnected from mains

Find another battery it says like the one you have is faulty. If you try another known good battery and that fails just like yours then try a know good ac adaptor. If that fails, then its a problem with the motherboard not charging batteries properly but it really does sound like a faulty battery from my experience.
