I have a Sony AM/FM Receiver Model # STR-DE575. It shut off when I was listening to it, and now wont turn back on. When I push the button there is a little "click" noise inside and that is it. Can you help me?

Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'nekkid'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

Check for loose speaker connections at the speaker as another possible root cause for intermittent shutdown.

I have a Sony FM Stereo/FM-AM Receiver model STR-DE325 that will not respond to volume up or down on the remote control. All of the other buttons on the remote work as they should and all functions of the...

No, I don't think there is a motor that is supposed to turn the volume - I think the volume is a push button type with one button to increase and another for down that is pushed by a clever rotary mechanism or if it isn't exactly like that the principle is probably a similar use of pure electronics.

It is clear the link between the infrared receiver and decoder and the volume electronics is broken and it will probably need a service engineer to discover where and effect a repair.

Sony STR-DE575 5.1 Channels Receiver I have power to everything but I am getting ZERO sound. Is this something that is fixable or do I just need to replace my receiver?

Have you looked in the manual? Basic speaker setup with test tones will certify the basic hardware. Then onboard FM. Then add the compexity of external and digital sources.

System turns off and flashes "Protect"

Hi, you have a short somewhere along your speaker wire. When the receiver goes into protection mode, it shuts itself down so you don`t blow your on-board audio amp.

If you see protect come up on your Receiver, you have got a short somewhere. What`s happening is your receiver is sensing an overload somewhere in your system and if it does not go into protection mode and shut down , there will be permanent damage done.

You will need to check the speaker wire if it is not bridging somewhere or sometime else..

Have a nice day..

SONY RECEIVER IS LOCKED. IT JUST FLASHES THE WORD "PROTECT"

It either got an electrical short somewhere on the chassis or overheated. Press down the power button on the receiver and hold it until you hear a second click from inside the chassis. Then try to power it back on and go from there.

Unable to hear dvd audio when dvd playing on Sony STR-DE575

Hi The first thing to do is disconnect the red and white audio cables from the back of the receiver, and plug them directly into the tv. If you then have sound from the DVD, then you have eliminated the possability of no audio coming out of the DVD player. If the DVD player checks out fine, then I would try plugging the jacks into another aux input on the receiver, and select that and see what happens. Also, if there is a "tape monitor" button on your Sony, make sure it is turned off. I'll assume the receiver has sound from other functions, so it would be rare for one of the inputs to just stop working, (but certainly not impossible), I'm not familiar with that model, and normally I would say it could just be a dirty selector switch, but since you mentioned having a remote, then switching between inputs is done by the microprocessor, not a physical switch, so if you cannnot get sound through using another input, then it could be expensive to repair. Hope this helps, and good luck!
