Question about LG 42LH40 LCD TV

1 Answer

TV was not in use but storm came through this morning and we were without power for 2 hours. Now when I turn the TV on it is not receiving a signal through any of the 4 HDMI ports. Cables work ok, digital cable box is working ok. Not sure what is up with the HDMI ports. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Scott

Processor could be locked up, unplug the set from the wall for 40 Min. and that reset it back to normal. If that don't work, than it will need repair.

Satellite dishes wen down during storm. Attempting to find signal. SDHBH box is unresponsive. Is there a hard reset procedure?

Yes,unplug, replug the box back like about an hour later. The box, will reboot and updated it software. The incomming broadcasting signal should be back.If not storm, did more damages to the LB reciever connected on the dish itself.Must call Dish Network to check it out, might have to replace it.

Dvr not responding

There was a software update early this morning which caused your recvr to go to recovery mode until it downloads the new software which takes about 4 hours. Once this is done you should be just fine!

Blinking red led light

The TV is on protect mode.

Try first leaving the TV power cord unplugged for some times, let say one hour or so.

Also ensure that the fault is not coming from a faulty receiver box sending bad signal, check if you get same problem with no receiver box or dvd connected.

If that does not work, and you keep having a flashing led on front of the TV, and tv turning off by itself after a while, that indicates a fault condition.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the TV goes on protection there are only two possible reasons.

1The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or abroken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , startingthe flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then theTV will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

Common faults that can occur are a blown capacitor on power board, a convergence IC has blown, or a fault on Digital board.

Check also the video cable or any external connection cable, if the cable is shorting, or the connector is bad, you can get same flashing state because of the video cable.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.

What kind of cable are you using to connect it with (coax, HDMI, RCA (composite), component, s-video)?
This may be a grounding problem. Either the cable from the satellite dish is grounded to something with a little electricity running through it or you may have a hot ground in your electrical outlet. Or the cable may be on a different ground than your electrical outlet and by connecting the two it has created a slight electrical current. You can try using a plug adaptor to remove your receiver from the electrical outlet ground. These adaptors are meant for older homes and electrical outlets that do not have a third hole or ground plug. The outer metal part of all video connectors is the ground and this may be causing the tv to act strangely.

I hope this works.
