Hi,
Its sounds like you have a siphon going on, this happens when the drain hose it too low during fill and as the water enters the unit it exits through the drain hose. To stop this the drain hose needs to be higher than the tub itself, meaning: raise the drain hose behind the washer to about control panel area. This will or should stop the siphon effect and allow the water to remain in the tub. If the drain hose is low this siphon will start again.
I hope this helps

Sounds logical, however not the case. The drain is at control panel level and the washer worked fine as is for quite some time before this problem started recently. What is it that controls whether
Not the case, washer worked fine for quite some time before this problem started. What is it that controls whether the water is being contained in the drum like during filling and agitating or if its being allowed to drain for spin cycle? Is it some type of solenoid valve or switch?

After researching the unit, this is a direct drive and the motor much change direction to drain. Is your unit agitating and draining at the same time? Or agitating and spinning at the same time? The pump is connected directly to the motor, so in order to drain it is suppose to reverse the motor to drain. If you motor in running backwards (rare) it could drain when it washers, I have seen this once. Again rare!! So basically, need to determine the direction of the motor, or disconnect the pump from the motor only, run the unit a see if the water circulation in the tub rotates outside to inside, if running backward it would be reversed.
I hope that helps.
