Hey thats a genuine windows application. It's designed to run and make sure your stuff is legit and annoy you about validation. Try getting a new XP disc that doesn't have that built in, they're everywhere ;). You can also try this guide here

I have no sound on my computer

You didn't give your OS, but in the Tray Notification Area is there a Sound icon? If no Open Control Panel, Sound. OR Open Windows Task Manager, Processes tab, highlight , Image Name "explorer.exe" and click on end process, a box will appear, end process, In the top left corner of Windows Task Manager is FILE, click, New Task (Run...), in the open box type, explorer.exe, and click OK. This will return your icons. As for the audio open Device Manager, Sound, is it enabled? Drivers? Have you done a OS upgrade? You could do a system restore to a date before this issue.

Cant get back to desktop

Pretty vague help request "can't get back to desktop". Is the computer booting? Is it that your desktop is blank after it boots with no icons being shown on the desktop? Viruses can hide the desktop and other things on the computer. Maybe your boot process has the problem when it tried to display the desktop. Try hitting the CTRL+ALT+DEL keys. Hold down each key as you hit them and don't take your finger off the keys until after you have pressed the DEL (Delete) Key. This will bring up your Task Manager. In the task manager window click the Processes tab and look for explorer.exe. If you see it click explorer.exe to highlight it then click End Process. After you end the process click FILE at the top left corner of the Task Manager Window and click the option New Task (run). When the Create New Task window opens type: explorer.exe and press OK. This will cause your desktop to reappear with icons if windows had a problem displaying it on the boot process.

Laptop hanging off

If your laptop is hanging while you are working, press this combination keys:
Ctrl Alt Del.
If you are using windows XP, it should automatically take you to task manager.
But if you are using windows vista or windows 7, it would show you options, of which you are to select 'task manager'.
End the tasks the are not responding by right clickin it and selecting 'end task'.
If that task still refuses to end, still in the task master pane, go to 'processes'.
Select the processs running the nonresponsive task. Eg, if internet explorer is the non responsive task, the process would be 'explorer.exe'.
End that process.

If it stil doesnt work, then select 'end all processes', and restart the system.
Hope this was helpful?

I keep receiving the error message that Adobe Updater is running and should be closed. I ran a search and I can't find Adobe Updater on my PC.

Hi. Just press Ctrl-Alt-Del, select Task Manager Button to open the Windows Task Manager. Go to the Processes tab, look for these image names and terminate (end process) them:
adobeupdater.exe or Adobe_Updater.exe
Close the Windows Task Manager and you're done.
Hope this helps.
