"Please Wait" flashes continuously. Cannot

Hope this additional info will help. Problem originated while I was fast forwarding to get to the end of the disk to view a particular scene. The screen took on a series of horizontal lines, light in color and of a greenish hue, but not pixilated as when the disk has a surface blemish. In trying the resets over and over, at times this screen would show uo again, but mostly it was the same old "please wait" flashing. Although only a year and a half old I'm starting to wonder whether it's time for a new player, but hopefully not. Would appreciate any additional help you and your cohorts can give me. Please note I could not update with the downloaded software you suggested since communication with the player could not be established other than the flashing "please wait".
