phone works but has stopped ringing

  • Anonymous Jan 17, 2008

KX-TGA560B... We bought a set of 4 handsets with one base unit. Phones 2, 3 and 4 ring very quietly even with the ringer volume set to highest. I have read the manual looking for a troubleshooting tip. No suggestions are available in the manual. The panasonic website has nothing more to offer other than to refer you to a business that can do repairs on their phones. The phones ring so quietly that you cannot hear them at all if there is any other noise in the room, even if you are holding the phone in your hand. Phone number 1 usually sits in the base unit and it still rings loudly. This sounds like a manufacturer defect. Will try taking apart one of the phones to see if I can find a problem.

My Panasonic KX TG2382B phone used to ring and now it doesn't. The handset says the ringer is off and I can't figure out how to turn the ringer on.

My 2.4 GHz model no. 21018GE3-A phone keeps saying do not disturb and so the ringer is not working and i've looked through the menu and checked the ringer i just need help if anyone knows.

  • sndiaz May 10, 2008

I've re-set the handset back to default settings. The base is not set to "Do not Disturb" but the phone still won't ring. The caller (me from my cell phone to test) can hear the phone ringing but it actually isn't...WHAT the Heck!?!

  • maryfl May 12, 2008

My fixed phones do not ring when someone calls and my answering machine does not pick up since about 10 AM this morning. I can call out and receive incoming calls (I used my cell phone to check this) but none of my phones ring (i have 3 phones in the house). My DSL works.

    Thanks.

  • norsedog Jul 18, 2008

Neither of my two phones rings with incoming calls, and the answering machine doesn't work either. I went through every page of the instruction booklet and changed settings but nothing will get the phones to ring or the machine to answer. I think the base unit is broken. I am very disappointed with this $80 product!

  • drburd01 Aug 07, 2008

You can call in to my number and there is no indication on my end that a call is coming in. I can get a dial tone and call out all day long.

THE PHONES DO NOT RING, BUT WE ARE ABLE TO RETRIEVE MESSAGES. THE SCREEN SHOWS INITIALISING WHICH IS SPELLED INCORRECTLY.

My two phones stopped ringing yesterday after years of good service.
Have dial tone and can receive and make calls fine.
Tried a non-wireless phone and connected it to the "first jack" coming into the house. Doesn't ring either but, works fine as above.

There's a "do not disturb" button on the cradle. If it's red, your phone won't ring.

On the Sony IT-B3 phone, the "ringer" is a wafer "Sonalert". It's a disc about the diameter of a quarter, and it's connected to two wires (one red and one black). These wafer Sonalerts are sensetive to moisture (humidity), and will frequently become faulty. It's easy to test (to confirm if it's the problem). Disconnect the two wires (red and black) from it (use a soldering gun or low-heat soldering iron). Be careful, because too much heat will damage the wafer Sonalert. Then get a 1.5 volt battery (a AA or AAA is ideal). Attach two short wires to either side of the battery. Touch the two contacts on the Sonalert with the wires. If you don't hear a scratching (hiss) sound, then reverse the wires on the contacts. If you still don't hear a sound, then the Sonalert is bad and needs to be replaced. You will most likely be able to find one at Radio Shack or most other electronics parts stores. Be sure to take the original one with you so that you can get an identical match.

My guess is The bell wire is not connected up to the master socket, see diagram for correct conections:- http://www.wppltd.demon.co.uk/WPP/Wiring/UK_telephone/uk_telephone.html If you only have two wires in the extension wiring, then the solution is to replace the extension socket with a master socket. best of luck

  • Imurfoneguy Sep 24, 2010

If you have a landline phone plug that into the Demarc either inside/outside of your house, if you dont know what that is, its a grey box and you will see customer service side. Get a phillips screwdriver and open that side up and plug your phone in. If it doesnt ring there, your phone company has to fix the problem.

I have this problem also. If I push a button on the phone when I know it is supposed to be ringing, it will "wake up" and start ringing! I haven't figured out why yet, but it should illiminate the wire connection suggestion.

When I installed this phone, I plugged it in to the phone connector line that I had used for my old phone, one with four wires behind the plastic plug - a standard phone to wall line with identical clip plugs at both ends.

I found that the phone did not ring, and also that the answering machine did not pick up - it had worked at first, but then stopped.

I went back to the Vtech box, which contains a phone connector line that appears identical to the one I already had, except that it seems to have just two wires in the plug. When I plugged in that line (that came with the phone), it worked.

Whether it will still work tomorrow is another question.

was your phone socket connected to another phone . Sometimes the capacitor in the first phone is shared by two wires to the second phone connection. This was done to stop the first phone tingling when the other phone was dialing a phone number. In the dark old days of telephony decadic dialling was the rage and n simply terms this used breasking the phone connection to signal the number dialed. N ow back to the present most phones use multi tone frequency signalling. If the first phone is an older phone it min the circuit and the new phone plugged in may not be wired to share out a capacitor. No capacitor means no ring tone gets to the ringer. ot have a capacitor newer phone then the capacitor may not be

Answering machine Model 25865. Is there any way to turn the answering machine "on" remotely. Example: while away, electrical storm causes machine to turn off. Is there any way to remotely...

The manual for this phone doesn't say you can turn the answering machine on remotely, but every one I've ever seen can do so. Most of them say call your number and let the phone ring...and ring...and ring, and eventually the answering machine will turn on. Ten rings is what I've seen most often. I guess the manufacturers figure most callers will hang up fairly soon if the machine doesn't answer, so they pick a large number. Try it on your phone; worst that can happen is it won't work.
