CanonPIXMA iP90 Color Ink Tank installation problem
I keep getting an error message that reads: "The following ink tank is not installed: Color Ink Tank. Install the ink tank properly and close the printer's cover. If you do not want to install the ink tank, click cancel."
The cartridge is installed properly. While traveling, I removed the ink cartridges for 3 weeks. Once I settled in Mexico, I tried to use the printer and kept getting the error message. I tried cleaning, deep cleaning, print head alignment, and installing new cartridges. I occasionally am able to print a test page, but the ink pattern is not good, even with a new cartridge.
I have the same problem with one of my printers as well. I have taken the printer apart and noticed a large amount of excess ink all over the bar that has the ink tank sensor on it. I cleaned that off and took the metal cover off of the ribbon cable to clean the ink off from under there.
I have come to the conclusion that the switch that is depressed when an ink tank is installed has been broken or the connections to the switch has been broken.
*I have not confirmed this with Canon

I have the same problem and my tank is installed properly. It was working fine with a low black ink tank. I replaced it with the exact same black ink tank and it won't recognize it. I've tried recycling the power, making a shim with a piece of paper to try to push the swtich (underneath the cartridge) activate. But I think the switch may be just broken, because there is no ink in the tank holder or anywhere....it's very clean. Anyone have any other suggestions????

yeah it sounds like a cartridge sensors are stuck or broken. i would say to replace the whole print unit. It will need a service support dealer to fit this part unless you can buy it and fir it yourself.

Resetting the Ink Counter When an ink tank is replaced, the ink counter must be reset. The low ink warning is only displayed properly if the ink counter is reset.
Message Prompting Confirmation of Ink Tank Replacement If an ink tank is removed, the printer will output a message prompting you to confirm replacement of the ink tank at the start of the next print job. When an ink tank has been replaced, follow the procedure below to reset the ink counter. The low ink warning is only displayed properly if the ink counter is reset. Important If infrared communication is performed in Windows XP or Windows 2000, the printer will not output the message asking for confirmation of ink tank replacement. Reset the ink counter from the printer driver when you replace the ink tank.
1 Check the message, and click Yes.
Note Mistakenly clicking No instead, will prevent the low ink warning from functioning properly. If this happens, be sure to open the driver's Properties dialog box and manually reset the ink tank counter in the Maintenance tab.
2 Select the replaced ink tank, and click OK. The dialog box allows you to select the replaced ink tank. When both black and color ink tanks have been replaced, select both Black and Color. If you have not replaced the ink tank with a new one, click Cancel.
Resetting the Ink Counter in Printer Properties dialog box
1 Open the Printer Properties dialog box and click the Maintenance tab. 2 Click Ink Counter Reset. 3 Select the newly installed ink tank, then click OK
There's a small switch under where the ink tank goes on the left side of the carriage. You have to make sure you install the right side of the ink first, under the lip, and then press down the left side. When the switch goes bad, you need a new carriage which means you get a new print engine. Costs as much as a new printer.
That printer has a little switch on the carriage assembly that is made when the ink is put in. It's a tiny switch easily broken, and you have to replace the carriage assembly if it's broken. Make sure you place the ink in properly, the right side goes in under the ledge and then press down the left side.
I have Canon M560 printer installed 8 months ago. I replaced the CLI 221 Magenta and CLI221 Cyan ink cartridges, won't work and got this message Error 1411. Tried repeatedly to reinstall the ink cartridges and still have this message coming back. Any solution you could offer? I would appreciate it. Thank you.
