Issue is either with the X or Y sustain board. Look for a cap that has blown or a cracked solid state device on the board. One of them is responsible for the ***** croak you heard.
Dear bob_bitt, I am very sorry to say this but, looks like your TV is dead for ever. Plasma TV's have a glass tube inside them that fires the pictures onto the screen. The tube in your TV must have reached its EoL (End of Life) and hence, would have shattered.(That should explain the shattering glass) Before you throw out your TV though, try to get it checked by a professional technician. But if you bought your TV around 10 years ago,you will be better off buying a new TV.
Check your lamp. This is a common problem in projections. Sometimes there is a lamp door and two screws holding it in. you can physically see if it is bad. itll be shattered or have rings aorund it. anything that doesnt look right. If your lamp is fine then you may have blown a fuse or diode or ic chip..theres really a lot to go wrong. I would then take it to a repair shop.
The projector lamp has probably failed. If it had been overheating, the glass for the bulb would be weakened and then eventually when turned on the glass shatters, the pop you heard. Bulb replacement is usually a straight forward user replacement item. Ebay is often your best choice to get a bulb at a reasonable cost.
Hi,
Most likely the loud pop that you heard was the lamp filament shattering and you can verify that by physically inspecting it,the UHP lamps have a life expectancy of 6000 to 8000 lamp hours when they are Phillips and from 3500 to 4500 lamp hours if it is an Osram, and you can find this items on discount-merchant.com or on Ebay
Please rate this answer if it was heplfull
my first question is have you checked the bulb. the loud pop sound like the bulb blew and the rattling sounds like the lamos trying to fire. remove the bulb cover and unscrew the bulb
You may not see any deterioration in the picture when the color wheel begins to go bad. The noise will get louder and eventually, it will shut down or the wheel will shatter while the motor continues to spin. If that happens, you'll have a black and white picture.
If its a Samsung DLP that is mercury vapor lamp driven, its a safe bet the color wheel is going bad.
