once the smoke has been let out of the wires , thres nothing worth fixing on these coffee makers.

Hello... my coffee maker stop brewing but before that there was a smell of burned wire i tried to open it to see it from the inside but the screws have soldering paste.

Hi, then it might be a factory fault problem, i will advise you to call in a electrician to come and witness it whenever you put it on so that he will be able to identify weather it is the microwave's fault or an electrical fault...

I replaced my broken carafe on model: 169164 by purchasing a RIVAL 12 cup coffee maker PIL-HC08104 from WalMart for $10.24 and simply put my black handles on the new pot whaic had white handles. The pot appear to be exactly the same.

This information is for the GE model number 169164 12 cup digital coffee maker.
The Micro fuse is shorted open. There are two underneath the housing. They are made by MICROTEMP® and are the G400 series rated at 216 Degrees Centigrade.

You can check these with a Ohm meter to see if you have continuity. Checking across the leads of each one they should show infinity. If not you've identified the bad one. You can pick up a new thermal fuse at Radio Shack. The closest one to the specs of the Microtemp is a Radio Shack part number 270-1321 rated at 228 Degrees Centigrade. Before removing the old one notice which way the hat end faces.
Use a heat sink when soldering the new thermal fuse in place by using alligator clips or a pair of pliers.Reassemble and your back in business as a Barista.

Note: There are four Phillips head screws under the rubber pads. The three unusual screw heads may be removed/installed with a small screwdriver installed in just one of the slots.
