After inspecting the bottom baking element and finding a break, i replaced it. After installing the new one, it still won't heat. All the connections are solid. Any thoughts?
Just fixed my Maytag MER6772BAS my lower oven element was not working & buying a replacement element did not fix it, I found the problem in the control panel circuit board. The relay for the lower element had a bad solder connection to the board ( the yellow wire relay ) re-soldered connection & problem fixed. Check everything before shelling out hundreds on replacement parts. I had to take the control panel apart to fix this issue be carefulll not to force any of the connections, do not disconnect any of the tape wire harnesses. REMEMBER DISCONNECT THE POWER 220 VOLTS WILL HURT. ALOT.
Hi dmiller58,
This is how I solved my problem. First make sure that the upper oven works correctly, Both on bake and broil. Check to make sure that the oven heats up to desired temperature. I did those tests on my upper oven and found that the upper oven worked correctly I then rewired the lower oven in the following manner:
1) Reroute the wires leading to the upper broiler element, to the lower
broiler element. Reroute from before the broiler high-limit switch.
Needs an extra piece of wire which I scavenged from an old range at the
local landfill. The wire has to be at least AWG 16 (I used AWG 14) and
have a rating of 600V and 150˚ C. Make sure where the extra piece is
joined is well insulated.
2) Reroute the wires leading to the upper bake element, to the lower bake element.
3) Swap the heat sensor wires between the upper oven and the lower oven. It is a simple plastic connector.
4) When I want to bake in the lower oven I press BAKE for the upper oven on the front panel.
Trust me, it works. (My wife made a roast and several cakes)
I went a step further and connected the wires that used to go to the
lower broil, to the upper bake element. When I want to bake in the
upper oven I press BROIL for the lower oven on the front panel. Make
sure you set the desired temperature manually. Do not use AUTO SET.
The downside is that I cannot broil in the upper oven. A small price to pay for having a fully functional lower oven. The other alternative is probably a replacement for the clock/controller. (Cost of parts for that is $200-$300 pus labor $???)

If all your connections are solid then your controller is defective. Did you get any faults before changing the element? Does the broil (one at the top of the oven) work?
