When i turn on my mp3 player, the screen with RCA on it freezes and then it says, FAT Error! Plz connect UMS device format. Then the next screen to pop up says, HDD. It also makes a clicking sound. When it does come on, there is the list but no words. I can scroll but no words or music. When I press the music it just freezes again. So i have to hold the on/off button for a long time till it turns off.

returned from out of town, to find my chd500 clicking loudly, indicating USB connected. I selected it on the start menu, got an I/O device error message. Unplugged it, started it over and now I get the clicks and a frowny face on the screen. The computer no longer recognizes it as a USB device. What's up with that?

I had the same problem with my HDD060 (hard drive clicking sounds & Philips frozen logo). I just kept it plugged into the computer - finally after 15 minutes the player was delected. Who ever writes the firmware for these should be shot! and i'm using the latest firmware too. Good luck.

Sounds like the hard drive took a dump you may need to reformat totally and redo the firmware as if you dont have the ability to do this send back to the manufact and they do this stu ff all the time.

SOURCE: philips gogear SA 1356/97... i want to format it.. plz help

Try using Windows Disk Manager.
Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management
In the Tree-List on the right, you want Storage -> Disk Management if you can't see the tree-list select the appropriate button on the toolbar, you should be looking at something like this: http://attachments.techguy.org/attachments/129148d1206573004/disk-manager.jpg
Select your 'volume' from the list in the main part of the window and right-click. Somewhere in the menu it should say 'Format'. Select this and move through the stages.
(When asked use FAT or FAT32, not repeat not NTFS. NTFS is for Windows hard-drives only)

Philips gogear sa5245 freezes at welcome screen

You may want to contact whoever your IT source is you deal with. They do have programs to assist in reestablishing information. It could be a driver that you disconnected accidentally. If so, you would need install a driver.

When all else fails, you may need take the unit in to someplace like Office Depot or Best Buy for a checkup. They do check and tell you what is wrong, how much it will cost to repair, etc.

As soon as I switch my Philips SPC 620NC WebCam on, my PC shuts down. I use Windows XP service pack 2.

I have a similar error with my Logitech webcam. In order for me to use it, I must plug it in and turn it on before the computer even boots up, which is my solution for now.
If I turn it on while the computer is already running, it gives me the blue screen and shuts off.
This is because there is a program or application running in the background that does not comply with your webcam, causing Windows to get confused and crash/turn off your computer.
Try plugging in/turning on before you start your computer. Hope this works!

Philips GOGear

You might have accidentally deleted key system files, but this is worth a shot:

Recovery Mode for Philips' GoGear
Disconnect the player from the PC, and make sure the mp3 player is turned off. Hold in the volume + button on the mp3 player, and reconnect the player to your pc while holding in the volume + button. Continue holding the volume + for 10-15 seconds until a "Found New Hardware Wizard" pops up. It should recover your device if there isn't anything internally wrong with the player. Warning: this procedure will result in your songs being erased off the player, so they will have to be reloaded.

Philips GoGear Firmware Upgrade
You need to get the latest firmware upgrade from the Philips website:
1. Go to www.philips.com/support
2. Enter your country/language
3. Enter your model # SA6045 or whatever
4. Click on the link for your exact model # (the one w/o the "B" in it)
5. Click on "Software & Drivers"
6. Download the updated "Device/Firmware Manager"
7. Once installed, open the Philips Device Manager
8. Click on the "Update" tab, then the "Update" button (with your mp3 player connected to the computer, of course)
9. Your Mp3 players firmware will update automatically
If you do not have the latest version of the Philips Device Manager installed (the latest is the version from the Philips website), then clicking the "Update" button will give you a false positive saying "The firmware on your device is already up to date."

Crash

Clicking is very bad - probably needs to be scrapped

Last ditch effort:

Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard

Freezing problem

check for vent blockages, hoover around area. try starting up in safe mode (F8 on start up) and see if it crashes, incase this is a driver issue and a process of elimination is required. If it does not crash then a driver issue is a definate. If it still crashes then a processor overheating is the problem
