I have the same problem; I'm unable to unlock my Maxtor II 300GB drive. Does not come up as a mapped drive as it previously did, it shows it as a locked drive and I haven't a clue as to how to unlock it.

We have the same problem--the drive is locked, and the only option given is "unlock," which does nothing. There is no "properties" tab when you right click on the drive. All our photos are on this drive, which is now inaccessible. What can we do?

Hi,
I had the same problem. What I did was install the Maxtor drivers twice, then shut down the computer. Restarted the computer. Then, with the computer on, I unplugged the drive firewire, waited 15 seconds, plugged the firewire back in, then pushed the one touch button. Windows then recognized it in about 1 minute. I still have a locked drive icon but I also have the drive now recognized with a new drive letter.

Have you tried right clicking on the drive and going into properties. Click on security option and make sure that all the permissions for the drive are active with the exception of special permissions. Also look at the advanced security settings and make sure that you have full control permissions. Hope this helps.

Maxtor One Touch II - installation Software

I have a disk that worked for me and I am running windows xp. I also have the website address that is supposed to have the 98 drivers which could work perhaps. http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?locale=en-US&name=Maxtor_OneTouch_Drive_USB/Win98SE_Driver&vgnextoid=b07d8b9c4a8ff010VgnVCM100000dd04090aRCRD

Guess you could try them first and if that doesnt work I could perhaps make a backup of the disk/package/mail/ worth anything?

Computer does not recognize Maxtor OneTouch

Hi,

Sounds like you need to remove the cable, uninstall the software, Restart, and then shut down. Now, from a cold power off power on. I know this seems tedious, but it has to do with the Last Known Good Recovery File and what is in Device Manger.

Now reinstall the software and if the software should call for you to "now" connect the USB cable, do so only when prompted or when the installer is done. Re: the latter, attach the cable. Windows ill say it discovered new hardware, point windows to your CD drive where the installer disk is located and allow Windows to locate the software.

Shut down and restart and your drive should be recognized now when you have a desktop. If not, post this back using the comment box below.

When replying to mine or anyone else's reply please address us in your reply, such as Worldvet: that doesn't make sense, please explain. And so on and so forth. This allow US to track what you've tried and from whom you were provided the solution.

Thank you for you indulgence on this. And, please be aware that, we all here want to see you fixed up and on your way. We all have a pretty good track record. However, there are times when a repair from a warranty service center is the only solution. However, I'm certain we all can get you taken care of and thanks for using Fix Ya.

Maxtor is now owned by Seagate, and yes, you can go to http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/installation_assistance/installation_instructions/external_drives_&_personal_servers/ot2
Hope that helps, i am trying to get my Maxtor External II working now too, I think it's a power supply, cause it wants to keep installing the driver, but the driver is already there. Hmmm anybody?

Maxtor 300 GB won't turn on.

The enclosure has failed. if you need the content from the drive, extract it and place it into a more stable enclosure. if not, return the drive to Maxtor for a replacement. This is normal for Lacie and Maxtor drives...cheaper enclosures offer cheap performance and reliability.

Keep me posted.
