TV changes channels itself

Hi, My tv is fairly new and all of a sudden its changeing channels on its own, if i leave it like that after a while a red timer appears of about 1 min then the tv turns off and comes on itself and does the same thing with the channels. Ifi put it on standby after 5 seconds it turns on by itself, it seems as if a button is constantly pressed but i have taken batteries out of the remote but i have the same problem, please help.

Thanks for your reply, i have tried everything really even i opned up the tv and disconnect the cables for remote sensor then switched the tv on and it was still changing channels, even if i put the tv on standby from the remote it turns back on again.
i have checked all buttons and they are not stuck, do you suggest i open up the actuall infrared sensor on the tv and clean it or something, thanks for your help.

I have similar problem... Toshiba 35" tube TV, volume up and channel down continuously changing (all of the sudden one day). The power button had been broken a while before.. so naturally I assumed the front panel of buttons was depressing the other buttons and causing the haywire channel and volume changes. NOPE, I took it apart and completely removed the plastic button panel so nothing could be pressing anything, and nothing inside was stuck. Still the changing problem. Where can I get a remote sensor?

Have you checked to see if any of the front panel buttons are depressed and stuck??? this is a big problem these days?? I have also found the infared remote sensor to be bad on some sets that do crazy things all by them selfs.. A funny storry once i had was a customer called me after her mother called some goast finders as her maggy projection set would go on all by itself andf the channels would change and the volume would go up and down all by its self. funny thing I had a set just like thast in the shop at the time with the same problem and I scoped out the output pulse from the infared reciver on the set and that was putting out noise on the data line and caused the set to eratacly do all sorts of weird stuff. get the point?? its a stck button or the remote sensor is bad.

I've had a similar problem. I was watching TV one day and all the sudden the channel changed by itself. It went down one station. Then every once in a while it would just go down one station on its own. It has done it more often recently.
It does not come on or go off by itself and it does not keep flipping channels. It just goes down one station and stays there until I push the channel button or use the remote to change the channel back.
I'm thinking that the sensor may be going bad or it could have a button stuck. The power button did break a while back, so maybe that has something to do with it. It's something within the TV itself that is causing it, like a bad sensor that is malfunctioning and causing it to flip.
It will most likely have to be taken to a TV repair shop to get checked out and to have it fixed there. Unless you know how to put in a new sensor to see if that fixes the problem. Either that or you can check to see if there are any stuck buttons.

SOURCE: Stuck in Standby

I've just called Argos who I brought the bush tv from and they talked me though how to fix this problem, here goes
Press and hold the on/ off button
Whilst holding unplug the plug from the wall
Continue holding for 30 seconds
Plug in the plug whilst continuing to hold the on/ off button
Continue to hold for a further 30 seconds
And the screen should come back on, it's worked for me, good luck x

My Toshiba Smart TV is only 2 years old and keeps switching channels on its own.

I would guess it is either overheating, or someone has a Samsung next door and your remotes are the same. :>/

For overheating, go around the back and side vents with a vacuum cleaner with the small brush attachment on it.

I cannot adjust volume or change channels on TV or with the remote. Do I need a new motherboard?

Unplug the TV, and leave it unplugged for abt 20 minutes,
Plug it back in, turn it on, and see if it has reset itself.
The channel and volume control memory and adjustments are on the main or motherboard

Aiwa TV MODEL No. TV-A149 AGING

I have Aiwa TV MODEL No. TV-A149
The problem that I am suddenly facing is that I can't change channels or volume or use any other function. I can't even turn it off with remote control.

Its stuck randomly on a particular channel that I was watching at that point of time.

Along with that channel it now shows a message in flashing red color that reads :-
AGING
6EDEH

Now when I press ''Display'' button on remote control volume goes off and this code is shown :-
S123 K234 Y
100 000 0

The numbers in the second line can be navigated by ''CH+'' button and changed between 0 and 1 by ''Vol+'' button.

I really don't know anything about this. So, please help me out of this problem.

No picture, just an abstract pattern

it depends if its just that input or the whole tv itself if it works on other inputs it may not be to bad to fix, but if its the tv itself it depends on how old it is and how much you paid. it could wind up costing quite a bit. so take all those things into consideration. it might just be time to upgrade

TV or Satellite Box Problem?

Do you have a VCR or DVD recorder? If yes, set it to record what you are watching. After a "blackout" rewind the tape and review it. If there is a blackout on the tape, the problem is the sallite box, if not, it is the TV! QED

TV will suddenly change channels, change volume, or go to set up screen by itself

yes and this is a common problem! First lets check out the obvious/ when theis fault starts to happen take out the batteries out of the remote control. If the problem stops then you need a new remote. If the proplem persist the remote sensor assy is bad in the tv set. Ive never heard a cable box causeing a motherboard to act up?? Wait arent mother boards in computers?? lol. believe me you need to tell the tv msn to replace the rmote sensor. Now in an extremly rare cases the microprocessor was causing the problem BUT highly unlikly. Good Luck
