Toshiba 42hp82 plasma picture problem

Hi,

My plasma screen has a snowy black screen and no sound. None of the controls seem to work other than the on/off switch. I've replaced the power supply so that good. I can get the sound to work if i remove the g-hyper board which also turns the screen green with a flicker. The volume works and tv/video button will change the inputs with the g-hyper board removed. Should i replace the g-hyper board, the main signal board, or should i be looking at something else?

Could you please explain a bit more.?

    thanks.

  • bardx86 Sep 11, 2008

Ya but what board? I would like some trouble shooting steps.

  • bardx86 Sep 11, 2008

Getting it serviced is not why I'm posting here lol. What board is the conveyance board?

  • bardx86 Sep 12, 2008

Well i think the key here that will the g-hyper board connected to the signal board I lose sound and volume channel and tv/video buttons. So something in that relationship is causing it to sorta lock up.

  • bardx86 Sep 12, 2008

Your kidding me right, this is your solution? Does any one on this site have any plasma tv tech knowledge?

  • bardx86 Sep 12, 2008

I have the tv completely apart I have not trouble replacing the caps but they don't appear to be bad. what are your thoughts on why the sound fails when the g-hyper is connected to the signal board.

  • bardx86 Sep 13, 2008

I have a service manual but it don't trouble shooting for this issue.

Well this could the problem with g board because the sound is working and tv button is working when it is removed ,however if you want a solid answer for your question then you need a service manual to guide you to trouble shoot the problem ,I would recommend going to the following link and getting the service manual so testing procedures. Its only 10.99 and they email it to you shortly after purchase. The manual is a valuable resource as it will have part numbers in case you do need a new board. heres the link.

Resetting the TV

Some TVs have a reset button. If available and accessible, try using the reset buttons before using the steps below. Using the reset buttons can saved time.
1. Unplug the TV power cord from the power outlet for 3 - 4 hours.
2. Unplug any connected devices (DVD, Set-top boxes, etc...)
3. Press and hold the TV power button for five seconds.
4. Plug the TV power cord back into the power outlet and turn on the TV.
5. Open the on-screen menu to confirm that the TV is responding again.
6. Turn off the TV and reconnect the devices.
7. Turn on the TV.

hope this may help;

Regards,

Sounds like your video signal is getting canned somewhere, without anosciloscope to do some test, hard to diagnose exactly what is going on. This is from esteemed FixYa colleaugue premtech on the g Hyper board This is a somewhat common problem having to do with the hyper module, Toshiba p/n#23148024
There are a gouping of 16v/10uf caps in the hyper board that fail causing the distoritions you're describing here. At first, as the module begins to go bad the distoritions are present and usuallly go away or fade significantly as the set warms up - - this gets worse until the distoritions don't go away at all... From what you're saying you're at stage three already. :)
You have a few of options: (1) local repair shop pull the board and replace the caps or module; (2) Pull the module yourself and repair or send it in for board level repair; or (3) pull the hyper baord, order a new one and put it in yourself.
For 2 or 3 you'll be better off having the service manual and if you need it just email me privately and I'll send it. Make sure in your request to tell me the model number and reference something of this repair so I have a clue of what you need.
BTW the hyper board is on the left side of the unit mounted vertical on the signal board inside a metal can.
Good Luck
Bill
Comment by premtech, posted on Jun 10, 2007 Sent link to service manual and schematics to your [email protected] address via Pando.. You will need to download Pando to retrieve them - Pando is free and most techs use it for sending large multiple files, up to 1 gig free...
Good Luck

sorry about the poor formatting, it got lost in the transfer. hope it helps anyway

  • Anonymous Sep 12, 2008

sorry mate, don't have alot more on the fault you have, except to say that the hyper board seems to pop come up alot with faults, and recapping seems to sort most problems with it. Somewhere to start, short of replacing the board, which is why I posted the info to you in the first place. Good luck

It is possible that the g hyper board has a fault that is shutting down a power supply rail. Using your manual, have you been able to sniff about for any DC voltages that are disappear when you plug in the board. This would explain why the sound disappears also. Capacitors may be faulty even though they physically look ok. Have you done any checks with a capacitance meter to see if they are all good on that board. As they cost virtually nothing, I would just blanket replace them to the g hyper board and see what happens anyway. Is a way to move forward with your repair.

ConVERGENCE board. not conveyance board , and no it's not nessessarily the convergence board.

snowy picture is most offten caused by poor signal input.

convergence is refference to the colorguns and how they converge on the grid pattern test.

and what does he mean by snowy , that doesn't tell me alot but it does suggest poor signal input.

  • Anonymous Sep 12, 2008

You have no signal , and thats why you got nothing but black and snowy , I can't be any more direct than that.

Bingo there is your problem ( when I connect g-hyperboard I lose sound and volume channel and tv/video buttons. )

And a solution is get your schmatic and start tracing the circuits like a good tek

If I could reach through the internet with my magic o-scope and do it for you , I sure would !

I think we ALL deserve a FixYa for ending the stupidity.

Hi
How do I adjust the color decoder?
There are several issues here. Generally speaking, the Panasonic decoder seems to push blue a bit. The R-Y Axis Angle and B-Y Axis Gain in the service menu are used to correct this behavior.
There used to be a problem on some Panasonics with the Y/C delay on the S-video input. See the Quality Control section for more information.
How do I set the black level on a plasma?
You set the black level by adjusting the "Brightness" setting. You can use the same test pattern you would use for any other display.
What is the buzzing problem? How do I know if I have it?
You'll know. It's loud. In one instance, it was reported as loud as 72dB just above the display. There will always be some audible hum (60 Hz) if you listen right next to the display. If it's irritating from 10' away, you probably have the problem.
The problem was with two capacitors used in the power supply. The power supply board can be swapped out by a service technician and should be covered under warranty.
thanku sir,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,dont forget to rate me

I would think that the signal board would be more suspect than the hyper board for the symptoms you're describing. However I would recommend getting the service manual and doing some troubleshooting rather than just replacing circuit boards.
