Check if you have frost build up at the back side of the freezer section.

if you do, then it is a defrosting problem.

you could have a problem with the defrost timer, the defrost heater , or the bi-metal.

if there is no frost accumulation, that would be something more and you have to elaborate on what you observe with the unit to help me further troubleshoot your unit.

tnx 4 using fixya,

First how old is this unit? sounds like the water line from the filter to the ice maker is the problem, even if your model does not have an ice maker their is still that water line running to that area.

Ice Maker stopped working -- new fridge 3 months old.

Good day,
Icing could be one problem. The first thing to test is the water supply to the machine. Shut the house off at the meter. Remove the line from the water valve at the machine. Insert the line into a bucket while someone else turns on the water at the meter for a 15 second count. It should come out forcefully, not weak or just dribbling.
If it's bad, then the line and the fittings where it connects to the house supply should be inspected, and cleaned or replaced as needed.
If it is O.K. and the machine is under one year of age, it is under warranty and you should call your selling dealer for a free service call.

I have a whirlpool fridge with the freezer on top. The ice maker is not making ice quickly. How can I fix this?

Good day,
As a general rule refrigerator ice makers don't really make ice cubes very fast.
Things that could increase the production are.
1. Set the freezer to a colder setting. That control is usually on a whirlpool is called an air control.
2. Setting the refrigerator control colder, while also help since setting it to a colder setting will actually make both compartments colder.
3. The ice maker produces ice when it's internal thermostat reaches approx. 14 degrees.
You have no control of that function.
4. If the cubes are on the small side, the water valve on the back bottom of the machine may need to be replaced.
5. Along that same line, the water supply line from the house and it's fittings could be starting to restrict, not supplying enough water pressure.
The line, unless plastic, and the valve would need either be removed and cleaned or replaced with new.

Smelly Ice and water leaking into top shelf

Does water in door dispenser taste bad? If not, Try arm and hammer fridge deoderizer. It will help to absorb fridge odors which may be clinging to water molecules in ice maker tray. Ice maker tray is open to freezer area.Water is very medium to infiltrate with odors. Try this first

Water in bottom of fridge

Thanks to all who spent money or shared their experience to have somebody do this repair, and I really mean it.
I have a Whirlpool TopLoad Fridge (not a side by side).
Things you'll need
30 minutes
Small socket for cardboard panel on lower back and panel inside freezer
Bicycle Pump
4 Towels
Hair Dryer

1. Take everything out of freezer
2. Turn dials off in fridge for both compartments
3. Pull fridge out so you can get behind it and unplug it
4. Be vigilant of ice maker line if installed
5. Pull cardboard panel off on back
On the left side you should see the back of the skinny drip pan and a small line. That line goes from the freezer and is most likely clogged.
6. Blow dry the back of the freezer enough so the ice is thawed at the bottom of the back panel.
7. Remove the two screws on the back panel. You may just be able to pull it toward you enough to get behind it. You'll see the coils and fan, and underneath these you may see some ice sheets and there should be a hole. That is the drain line that is clogged. I heated up some water and poured it over the drain to thaw the line. You may want to remove the crisper drawers and put some towels down there to catch the overflow. Once the ice is thawed enough at the drain. Go to the back of the fridge and place the end of the bicycle pump at the bottom of the drain hose. Apply pressure to get a good seal but keep pumping. You may have to go back and forth between pumping and thawing, but you'll know it is clear when you hear air going into the freezer and then the wonderful moment when water drips into the drip pan as advertised!

Keep those fridges less full so that the door stays sealed and keep the seal clean and also keep your doors from having too much stuff so the weight of the door doesn't pull away.

Okay, put it back together, turn everything on and be careful of your cord and lines when pushing the fridge back. Thank the Lord ours has wheels and man,was it cruddy underneath. Vacuum those coils underneath the fridge too for proper air circulation.

Blessings to you!
