Md5020 hp Pavilion TV. Last night it started making a loud almost grinding fan sound, and the red lights started to blink in the light indicator patch. the light is going from left to right across the screen. What could be the problem?

I tried this solution last night. had a similar issue. opened up the back panel and cleaned the fan. just for the fun of it, i tried to turn the tv on and presto. it works fine now and i probably saved a bundle. thanks!!!
Hi, your color wheel needs to be replaced, the bearings fail causing the grinding noise, the new ones use "air bearings" so they are supposed to last much longer, video-tek
Those blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. If blinks continue without any pause, the main board is faulty.
The fan problem appears to trigger the 4 blinking red lights to indicate overheating. The large fan just left of center when looking at the back of the TV is usually the culprit and you can confirm it is not working by shining a flashlight through the back of the TV. If the fan isn't turning you should consider cleaning. Otherwise you have another problem and should seek professional assistance.
The SONY Owner's Manual for the KDS55A2000 does not state what the 4 times blinking Power LED means.
However, my Sony Extended Care Service support insists that the projection lamp is the cause for the 4X blinking LED Power light.
I do not agree but am forced to buy a replacement lamp (not cheap) to prove that the problem is probably the fan, as the TV Technician states elsewhere in these FixYa support questions and answer
