Thanks for your comment. However I received another explanation that the iris was stuck as the camera had not been used for a while. A sharp tap was suggested and 'bingo' all is well!

CCD Imager chip is defective in your camcorder that is why no live view in camera mode for fresh recordings.
CCD Imager is electronic device that converts an image into electronic signals and its necessary part of any digital camera/ camcorder, it should be replaced by technician because camcorder will take apart and soldering work is required.
Thanks.

Good, stuck iris / aperture is another cause but very rare.

The problem i m having with my camcorder is when i want to record film screen goes blank but i can watch my previous recorded videos

Look in the view finder when recording instead of the screen. if you see the image there then the unit is probably set to look through there. Many of the new units dont' have a full view finder to lens item they actually have a small lcd screen inside the view finder. Check your options for recording.

Also if the view finder is tilted you need to close that before usign the lcd.

The image will not appear simultaneously on the LCD

monitor and the viewfinder. It will appear in the

viewfinder when the LCD monitor is in the lock position,

and it will appear on the LCD monitor when fully
extended.

Hi, I have a Panasonic NV-GS17EB.It is working perfectly fine and a nice camera. But recently the LCD view finder is giving some problem. It goes blank when I open the LCD view finder fully. But it...

the ribbon cable that carries the signal to the screen sounds like it has become damaged
thatcan cause the problem
when it is all the way open it stretches the cable resulting in a gap to form, so when only open part of the way there is still a signal. see if there is anything in the hinge that might be causing the stretching of the cable, as that is almost surely the problem..

Picture in veiw finding keeps rolling so cant see what i am video

As you have noticed, this is not a battery problem but rather a screen problem(the view finder LCD screen) If the image is crisp and clear even though its rolling I would assume that the LCD screen connectors have come loose and can be resolved by taking them off and re-connecting them firmly. Make sure to turn off the camcorder before atttempting the repair just in case you want to do this yourself. I strongly advice you take professional help in fixing it.

Feel free to post back if you need more help.

My original answer to your problem disappeared somewhere into cyberspace (I think that I pressed the wrong button). Anyhow...here is what happened.to me: I got an answer from another web site, and he said to take out all the ribbon leads and clean the ends. Unfortunately, you would need an electron microscope and tweezers to do that. I gave up, and took it into an agent to get a quote. The first one quoted me nearly $800, the second less than $200. The second one did the job and it worked great! I am still having a few teething problems, but it's not the camera's fault...it's mine. I'll have to read up on the manual, which I had to download from The Net, as I had lost the original one. It's 60 pages long! Hope that this has been of some help to you. JOHN.

SCREEN AND VIEW FINDER BLANK

Is the battery dead? Try taking it out and charging it, then put it back into the camera.

Also, you can try using another battery of the same type.

Sounds like a CCD sensor problem ( no image in capture mode but ok in playback ). Replace CCD block and will work fine.

Camcorder won't record or playback

I have the same problem It seems it is a tape drive problem I just wanted to say Lots of owners are having the same problem more over the the 3V battery shows empty on power on while it is not empty taking the tape out allows you to play with menu and view the image * you can also connect to the pc via Firewire connection and record in the PC hard disk or even change the line input from the menu to AV in and use the Camera as a Analouge to DV Vedio converter This goes to show that the Camera is woking fine , untill it is asked to move the tape * The only way to stop the camera from turning off is 1) take out the tape 2) in play back , press play the pause (some poeple claim to have solved the problem that way - has not worked for me )

NO PICTURE

I had this with my Panasonic NV-DS60. I thought it would be the ribbon cables not making good connections from the camera lens electronics because I had a similar problem with another camera. So I took the whole thing apart and disconnected and reconnected the ribbon cables - unfortuantely this didn't work! So I thought there may be another connection I couldn't see so I tapped around the lens area with a hard object (tip of a screwdriver) and it worked! It may be well worth you tapping the case in this way (without pulling the camcorder to bits) on the top, about an inch back from the front of the lens a couple of times. I'm not an expert, but it worked for me! Obviously, don't hit it hard enough to damage it. Good Luck
