I am replacing the tray 2 feed roller old one came out easily but when trying to put new on in it doesn't appear to be snapping into place and the paper sensor just dangles. Any advice as how I know I have everything back in the right place?

If you look closely, the paper sensor flag must be seated in a hard to see slot that keeps it from sliding side to side.
Be careful! Things made of plastic have a tendency to snap!

While the line is showing up on the output pages. Stop printing and put paper in the manual feed tray (tray 1). Start printing again. to continue the job.
The printer's pickup roller needs to be cleaned or if its worned needs to be replaced. The pickup roller is the little blue rubber roller behind the cartridge. If it still doesn't catch you'll need to strip the machine down until you get to the springs that lifts the papertray. Stretch the springs a bit. This will cause the paper to be pressed against the pickup roller. Re-assemble the machine and try it.
I had an issue with the cassette tray paper feed. I loaded paper in the rear tray, manually used the printer properties button to make it print from the rear tray and printed from there. The next day I manually did the same thing but forced it to print from the cassette (bottom) tray. It worked fine today. It no longer thinks that there is no paper and the rollers are picking up the paper edge for proper feeding of the paper. I did not go through the roller cleaning procedure but I would do that if switching back and forth manually between trays doesn't work.
