Question about Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II Digital Camera

2 Answers

The diopter lens inside the camera is loose and rattling about, because of this it will not maintain focus position within the viewfinder at all shooting angles. It also partly obscures the view through the viewfinder at times. As i wear glasses, i am afraid the diopter is very important to me. the camera is a canon eos 1d mk 11

This will require disassembling the camera to remove the top cover and viewfinder mechanism to re-seat the diopter lens and can be done fairly inexpensively. However, it's not really a user serviceable problem and should be done by a qualified service technician.

My camera won't focus!

While looking through the viewfinder, turn the diopter adjustment knob just above and right of the viewfinder to adjust it until the focus marks and other information in the viewfinder become sharp to your eye.

Canon 450D viewfinder out of focus due to loose element within viewfinder, is this repairable

There's a diopter adjustment knob above and right of the viewfinder. Turn the knob while peering through the viewfinder until it comes into focus.

When I look through the lens at the top everything appears blurry but when I open the lens door everything appears clear. Why?

On the left of the viewfinder, there is a little wheel. That is the diopter adjustment, which must be adjusted for your eyes. Rotate the wheel until things look in focus when you look through the viewfinder. The diopter wheel on the SX10 IS is prone to move when you take your camera in and out of the case, so it may need readjustment regularly.

I have a Cannon EOS Rebel xsi SLR camera. When I look through the viewfinder the image is blurred. IT worked fine the last time I used it, but this time it is blurred and I haven;t been able to correct...

Two possible situations. It might be that the lens focusing system isn't working. Try focusing by hand (turn the lens manually) If the image moves through a point of sharp focus, then you have a lens or focus motor problem.
More likely, you have improperly adjusted the diopter. There is a small, circular wheel on the right side of the viewfinder, toward the top corner. It is sometimes covered by the rubber viewfinder hood so you might not notice it. This adjusts the diopter correction in the viewfinder and if it's set wrong, nothing will ever look in focus. The pictures would be fine, but since the diopter is a correction for your eyesight, the viewfinder will be out of focus.

All my photos are slightly out of focus-no matter what setting i'm on.

One possibility that you can correct:
The eyepiece (viewfiender) diopter is out of adjustment for your eyesight.
Look at the viewfinder and locate the "slider".
Now look through the eyepiece (viewfinder) while in auto-focus mode.
Adjust the slider, left or right, until the image looks sharp to you.
If you wear corrective glasses, you can adjust the diopter whether you use your glasses or not.

This solution assumes that you are shooting in auto-focus; however, this also works in manual mode.

My canon lens 28-135 produces focused pictures but looks fuzzy in the viewfinder...is there something that has to be cleaned?

If your camera has a viewfinder diopter adjustment (small wheel a the side of the viewfinder) try moving this up and down to see if that corrects the problem

Model Power Shot S1IS - my view finder is blurred but the photos taken are clear. Did I touch the wrong button??

Next to the eyepiece is a diopter adjustment. This allows you to focus the viewfinder just for your eye. The camera lens is not affected. I can adjust the diopter and shoot without my glasses haveing to be on.

Diopter adjustment and viewfinder problem

Hi
I would not attempt to open the camera for any sort of fix. It has weather seals in place and would recommend sending it in to Canon. If you have any warranties left it would void these. Lastly this is a high proformance bit of kit and you want to get is seen to by an Authourised Canon Dealer.

As for the diopter adustment. To be able to see through the view finder and see your subject clearly, take of the lens cap aim the camera and turn the little dial until the screen inside the viewfinder is clear it should not be fuzzy. You are only looking at the screen/gring and not the image beyond. This does not affect your image but does effect how clearly you see your subject through the viewfinder.

Hope this helps

Canon digital camera will not focus

Check your diopter adjustment. It should be a small wheel on the upper right of the viewfinder. It is designed so that people who normally wear eyeglasses can use the viewfinder without their glasses, but it can occasionally get bumped. If the diopter adjustment is way off, it is like looking through someone else's eyeglasses!
