SOURCE: how do you know if thermal fuses & high limit thermostat are bad

Have to have a meter with continuity feature. Remove fuses and connect meter leads to each side of fuse then turn on meter to continuity setting and if it beeps then it is good if not then it is bad.

I am not a professsional appliance repair person but have fixed my own all my life.

Hope this helps

SOURCE: Maytag Performa dryer blowing heating elements

Hi and welcome to FixYa. You should check the dryer vent ducting inside and outside the dryer for restrictions / clogs to include the vent flapper. Poor air flow through the dryer will cause hot spots. If the blower is slipping on the motor shaft this too can cause poor air flow.

When you change the heating element AGAIN... break out the crevice tool and de-lint everything you can access. Also pull out the lint filter and wash it with white vinegar and water then soap and water. Fabric softener sheets material builds up on lint filters. It looks clean but air will not pass through the lint filter.

I think once you get it all ceaned up including all of the ducting to and through the outside wall it will work normally with no problems. I do not think at this time that you have an electrical problem with the outlet supply.

There is one more thing to check and that is the high limit thermostat. It could be STUCK. It will most likely be labeled L180 or L190. That thermostat is suposed to open at either 180 deg or 190 Deg depending on which one is installed. If it does not open then you will keep cooking your elements. We test them with a match and an Ohm Meter. Match under the removed thermostat CLICK. Thermostat opens (no resistance)

Wish ya the best.

Thanks for using FixYa.

the first thing to try wold be the thermal fuse.  you can check with an ohm meter and you will probably find it open up.  replacing is an easy one by please UNPLUG the machine first.

Kenmore 110-88752793 washer dryer. Tub filled up for the rinse cycle and then stopped. Tried turning on the dryer and that has no power either. Cycled the circuit breaker. Still nothing. Any ideas?

The circuit that supplies your washer and dryer may also have an in-line GFI outlet which may have tripped. Even though you have cycled the circuit breaker you would also have to reset the GFI outlet as well. Good luck.

What is recommended load size for Bosch Nexxt dryer

The Bosch Company is probably known best for its high-end dishwashers, but the company also produces other home appliances including refrigerators, stoves, washers and dryers. Bosch dryers carry the Energy Star rating. A Bosch dryer has a structured drum that provides more thorough drying and condensation drying for faster cycle completion. If mechanical problems occur with the dryer and troubleshooting efforts fail, performing a reset may return the dryer to normal functioning.
Instructions

1Unplug the Bosch dryer from the power supply and then reconnect to the power supply.
2Replace the local fuse or reset the circuit breaker if a fuse or circuit breaker has tripped.
3Place items to be dried into the dryer and select a program. Close the door firmly.
4Press "Start/Pause."
5Press "Stop/Cancel" if the above steps do not resolve the problem.
6Pull the dryer out from the wall and use a standard screwdriver to remove the central metal plate on the back of the dryer.
7Locate the small red reset button above the heating element and press and hold the button for a few seconds. Release the button.
8Place the back access panel back on the driver and move the dryer back against the wall. Repeat steps 3 and 4. If the problem continues, press "Stop/Cancel," turn off power to the dryer and contact an authorized service technician for assistance.

I have a kenmore dryer 80 series it only makes a lite sound when I push the start button. I won't come on. The power is good.

The Kenmore 80 Series of dryers are consumer grade dryers for home use. As with most home appliances, the Kenmore 80 series dryers will occasionally not work as intended. If a problem occurs with your dryer, however, you do not necessarily need it serviced by a technician. You can attempt to troubleshoot and fix any problems with your dryer before contacting a technician.

  1. Kenmore 80 Series dryers may not run for several reasons. First, make sure that the power cord is plugged into a working power outlet. You may need to plug a different device into the outlet to check that it is receiving power. If the second device does not run on the power outlet, you may have blown a fuse or tripped a circuit breaker. Check your fuse box or circuit breaker box and make the change as needed.
Next, make sure that the dryer door is fully shut. The dryer will not run with the door ajar.
Finally, check that the "Start" button was fully pressed and that a cycle was chosen on the machine. If you do not choose a cycle for the dryer, it will not run.
  2. If your Kenmore 80 Series dryer does not heat up during use, check that a heat cycle has been chosen for the load. There are several different dryer cycles you can choose, some of which do not use heat. Make sure that you have chosen a heated cycle.
As above, check that you have not blown a fuse or tripped a circuit breaker. The dryer may use more than one fuse or breaker: one is used to power the drum, and the other for the heating element. Make sure that both fuses or breakers are in working order.
  3. There may be times when Kenmore Series 80 dryers do not fully dry your clothes. When this occurs, check the lint screen and clear out any lint. The air may not flow as well if the lint screen is clogged.
Next, check to see if the exhaust vent is clogged. Lint and other particles may clog the exhaust vent over time, restricting air flow and making it more difficult to dry your clothes. To check the vent, run the dryer and hold your hand under the vent. If you do not feel any air flow, clean or replace the vent.
If you used cold water to rinse the clothes it may take longer than normal to dry. The same is true if the load of laundry is very wet or is filled with items that are very absorbent.
Finally, check the load size. The more clothes in the load the longer it will take to dry. If you want to reduce drying time, separate the clothes into piles of light and heavy items and dry them separately.

My dryer takes much longer to dry loads now

Hi!

You need to check the following things to sort out the issue you are facing with--

Improper sorting •Separate heavy items from lightweight items (generally, to dry a well-sorted washer load is a well-sorted dryer load).
Large loads of heavy fabrics •Large, heavy fabrics contain more moisture and take (like beach towels) longer to dry. Separate large, heavy fabrics into smaller loads to speed drying time.
Controls improperly set •Match control settings to the load you are drying.
Lint filter is full •Clean lint filter before every load.
Improper or obstructed ducting •Check installation instructions for proper ducting/venting.
•Make sure ducting is clean, free of kinks and unobstructed.
•Check to see if outside wall damper operates easily.
•Check the Installation Instructions to make sure the dryer venting is correct.
Blown fuses or tripped •Replace fuses or reset circuit breakers. Since most dryers circuit breaker use 2 fuses/breakers, make sure both are operating.
Overloading/combining loads •Do not put more than one washer load in the dryer at a time.
Underloading •If you are drying only one or two items, add a few items to ensure proper tumbling.

Dryer not heating

Answer Did you select an Air Only cycle or Air Only temperature option?
The Air Only cycle or Air Only temperature does not add heat to the dryer. Expect loads dried with the Air Only cycle or Air Only temperature to take longer to dry. Air Only cycle or Air Only temperature can be found on the control knob or button with the other temperature selections.
Has a household fuse blown or has a circuit breaker tripped?
The drum may be turning, but you may not have heat. Electric dryers use 2 household fuses or circuit breakers. Replace the fuses or reset the circuit breakers. If the problem continues, call an electrician.
Did you recently install a power supply cord on the dryer?
The power supply cord may be incorrectly installed. Review the Installation Instructions to make sure that the power supply cord is properly installed.

Whirl pool dryer LEC9000PW0 will not turn on

Has a household fuse blown or has a circuit breaker tripped?
There may be 2 household fuses or circuit breakers for the dryer. Make sure both fuses are intact and tight, or that both circuit breakers have not tripped. Replace the fuse(s) or reset the circuit breaker(s). If the problem continues, call an electrician.
Is the correct power supply available? (Electric dryers only)
Electric dryers require 240-volt power supply. Check with a qualified electrician.
Is the dryer door firmly closed?
Your dryer door may not be fully closed. It may look shut, but may not be latched. Push on the door to engage the latch or latches. Some models have an upper and lower latch. Both latches must be secure for the dryer to run.
Was the Start, Push to Start or Hold to Start button firmly pressed?
Large loads may require the Start, Push to Start, or Hold to Start button to be pressed and held for two to five seconds.
Is the Cycle Control knob set on a Sensor Dry or Timed Dry cycle? (on some models)
The Cycle Control knob must be set in a Automatic Dry or AccudryTM or Timed Dry cycle. The dryer will not start if set on the Wrinkle ShieldTM option.
Is Controls Locked status light on? (on some models)
Press and hold the Cycle Signal button for three seconds. This will turn off the Controls Locked feature.
Did you recently install a power supply cord on the dryer? (Electric dryers only)
The power supply cord may be incorrectly installed. If the power cord is incorrectly installed, the dryer may not start or heat. Review the Installation Instructions to check that the power supply cord is properly installed.

Hello mdonettaYou said,
Dryer shut off towels were not yet dry, turned dial to restart dryer acts as if it isn't getting power I closed door and pushed start button. Nothing! Checked breakers and power cord at outlet all checked okay. Any ideas.

yes, try unplugging the power cord or turning off the breaker for 5 minutes. Either will due. Some times the system needs to be reset!
If this does not work there are internal fuses that can be replaced!

Let me know how it goes!
