You will have to open up your network connections click start control panel network connections this may vary depending on your operating system look for local area connection if you see a red x or a yellow exclamation or question mark ! ? you will need to update or install the driver or it could be firewalled
If you are trying to connect through a modem/router you it should have come with a disk then
you might have to connect the usb lead to your modem to get a connection then
click start control panel,administrive tools,computer management,device manager scroll to network adapters should see a yellow question mark? right click install drivers
the driver might be on the disc supplied by your ISP internet service provider
or the motherboard disc

How do i enable wireless connection in my emachine model el1358g

The Emachines EL1358 has a wired LAN connection. To add a wireless connection, you need an USB wireless network adapter or an add-on wireless network adapter card. The internal card options may depend on exactly which EL1385 model you have. The EL1385G-51W has a PCIe x16 and a PCIe x1 slot. The card will probably need a low-profile bracket to fit in the case. (If both slots are in use, you'd need to remove one of the cards and replace it with the wireless adapter.) Check that the card has a driver for your machine's OS version. (The EL1358 came with Windows 7. Windows 10 x64 requires signed drivers, if you upgraded to that OS version.) Follow the directions for the wireless adapter to determine if you need to install the drivers before connecting the USB adapter or installing the card. If there is no CD or USB flash drive with the adapter packaging, you will need to either download the driver files at another computer or use the wired LAN connection to obtain the drivers. (Use the wired LAN to connect to your WAN or router to obtain the drivers if they come from Windows.)

Once the drivers are installed, then you can enable the wireless connection. For several versions of Windows, go to the Control Panel. Find the section on Networking. Choose Connect to a Network. See if your wireless network SSID is listed. If needed, go to the Network and Sharing Center. Then find and click on the link for Set up a new network connection. You may need to Manually connect to a wireless network if the SSID of the wireless network is not being broadcast.

How to install a network card in a desktop PC

Most computers that are being sold these days come with network cards installed on the motherboard out of the box. Installing a network card in a computer is not the easiest thing to do so this how to is not for the faint of heart. Before you start opening stuff up and and playing with anything look at the network card and write down all the important information like the model number, serial and specifications.

First you have to check and verify that the jumpers in your computer are set properly. Most computers now a days allow for network cards to be setup using software or plug-and-play, where these options are available you should use them.

Inside the computer you are looking for the PCI slot in the computer. There should be an open slot that you should slide the network card into until it snaps in to place. When its snapped into place, place a screw in the top of the card and screw it in to hold it in place.

If there are any cables included with the network card you should connect them. If you are not sure what connects to what or where you should consult some documentation on the motherboard.

When everything has been connected and looks right, its time to close up the computer and connect all your peripherals. Connect the computer the network and power up the computer.

Once started up the computer should need to download the drivers required to use the network card. If they don't download on their own you might need to go the manufacturers site and manually download the drivers.

Now its time to set up the configuration values using the computers software. The values will vary from one network to another. If you are working on a business network you will want to contact the person in charge of the network before you start playing with anything.

There are a couple of ways you can network two computers together.
Each computer must have a network card installed together with the LAN card drivers. The two computers needs to be connected to a network hub and these computers need to be set up on the same workgroup name.
Using a network hub will allow more the two computers to be connected to a network and the number of computers that can be installed on this network depends upon the number of available ports on the network hub.
You can use a Crossover LAN cable to connect the two computers together and you won't need a network hub.

I'm assuming you have just installed the cards. You'll have to install the drivers for the specific card. The model information is usually on the cards, either on the cards board or on the chip. I have a used compacq 530 but do not know what is missing because i cannot get it to hook up to the internet

Possibly if you gave more information .....does it have a network card installed, is the network card "enabled" in the hardware settings, does the network card have correct drivers ? ( no yellow question mark beside it ) Do you have an internet provider and account ? Is your internet high speed or dialup, if it is dialup, do you have a modem installed - with correct drivers ? Is it working - do a modem query to see if it responds ?
If using a network card and cable or DSL internet, is the cable connected from the PC to the cable or dsl modem ? Is the cable or dsl modem plugged in and the power and wan light on ? With the little bit of information you have given, it is not really possible to give an exact answer to what the problem is.

I was told by my isp that I need to uninstall and then reinstall my network interface card. How do I do this?

Go into device manager (control panel, system, hardware, device manager). Under network connections, right click your network interface card and select uninstall. Reboot the computer and it will automatically reinstall.
