Check lid..either the lid switch is bad or the lid switch actuator which is made into top...when in final spin push down on the right hand top part of lid,,,if it starts replace part needed,,,good luck

that stops then the spin cycle goes into high speed spin for that last few minutes
If the problem is that it continues to spray water until the spin cycle is finished it will be the program board or program controller switch
If it works O.K. in a different wash cycle, then the timer could well be the issue. Using that last cycle you described, will it perform a complete normal cycle ???
If you tried a different cycle and it worked this means that the timer is probably bad on the main cycle that you use. If the machine does not spin on all cycles, then please check out the LID SWITCH.
most modern machines have an out of balance detector to prevent the machine being damaged with a badly balanced load.
with a single item in drum, load will not balance and out of balance detector comes into action and prevents spin
front load machines will normaly spin slow on first part of spin cycle this helps distribute load evenly before hi speed spin also if load is extermely off balance ..a large towel with load of light fabrics will never spin to full speed due to off balance produced by wet towel hi speed spin is normaly acheived in last 3-4 min of spin cycle
Often people think machine not performing "last spin cycle" when machine "pausing" allowing gravity to drain wet clothes then turn clothes again then pausing again allowing gravity to drain wet clothes. Wait for a minute or two verifying machine in normal "pause" status.
Check your exit hose spigot, it may be clogged. This is if your filter is all clean. There should be air for passage in the standpipe behind. Your hose should not fit airtight into the standpipe and neither too deep into it. Snaking out your standpipe would be good too.
