It is quite common for a refrigerator to begin the first signs of a defrost problems once he fresh Food section begins to warm. Auto Dampers are an additional component to check while searching for the true reason for Fresh Food compartment warming. First look inside the freezer compartment and and see if there is a layer of frost building on the rear wall. If yes you will need to manually defrost unless you have anothr place to store the freezer goods. Unplug refrigerator and then remove the rear panel of freezer to get a good look at the snow covering your evaporator coils. Defrost with a hair drier. Now we need to look for the cause Auto Damper, Click here for the photo location of these parts=> MSD2756GEW Controls Section the adaptive defrost control is most likely the problem and is listed in the photo as location 13 and the auto damper

The Auto Damper model refrigerator has two controls and both have capillary sensing.

The Auto Damper controls the fresh food temperature and the Freezer Temperature
Control guides the freezer temperature. The fresh food compartment temperature is maintained by a damper assembly located at the back of the temperature control housing. Changes in air temperature cause the damper door to open and close. A control rod and gear connect the fresh
food control knob to the damper control.

Turning the fresh food control knob to the coldest position increases the flow of freezer air into the fresh food section. The freezer compartment temperature control warms at a faster rate and cools at a slower rate, increasing the compressor run time necessary to maintain a satisfied freezer temperature control.

There is always other possiilities but I see two other things that may cause this and that is the defrost heater with defrost Thermostat=> 61006199 Defrost Heater Assembly

I know this was long and possibly confusing but please ask if you should have questions or one on one assistance, Thanks, Sea Breeze

I have a GE Profile PDS22MCR bottom freezer. The freezer is getting colder and the fridge is getting warmer....... What could this be?

your damper assy isn't opening to allow cold air from the freezer up into the refrigerator, its located on the rear wall in the refrigerator compartment, you need to make sure theres a fan running in the freezer, then if so you should feel cold air blowing up in the refrigerator compartment, remove this panel and see if its shut,if no air is felt then the damper door is either broken or jammed shut or if its o.k.,then your control board in the rear of the unit could be defective not letting power to the damper door or even on of your thermistors in the side walls of the refrigerator that monitor temps in the refrigerator and freezer could be defective

Have ge gt mdl# gts22jbpbrww. the freezer is cold but the refrig is not getting cold. I took apart the cover showing me the freezer fan and it is not working could this be why the refrig is not getting...

Yes, if the fan is not forcing the cold air from the freezer section to the refrigerator section, then it will be warmer than it should be. Also check to make sure that the cooling tubes aren't blocked with frost/ice. If you put a hair dryer to the cooling tube openings you should feel the air flow on the other side.

Refrigerator not cold enough and freezer is too cold making food very hard? water seems to leaking on bottom of freezer and refrigerator.

Refrigerators with attached freezers typically keep the two compartments at predetermined temperatures, but failure of some components can lead the refrigerator to seem warm while the freezer portion completely freezes.

Fan Issues
According to the appliance website Appliance Aid, many freezers contain a fan that blows cold air throughout the freezer and into the attached refrigerator. If this fan fails, the site explains that the freezer may become too cold; the refrigerator will not receive air circulation from the freezer, though, and will remain warmer than normal.

Air Damper
Appliance Aid also notes that most refrigerator and freezer combinations contain a damper that regulates the flow of air between the two compartments. If the damper sticks or fails to function properly, it may restrict the flow of air from the freezer to the refrigerator. The result of a failed damper would be a completely frozen freezer and a warmer than normal refrigerator.

Hope this would help.

Good day!

Hello my fridge is not getting cold but seems to have ice build up in the top left hand corner even if I scrape that off it returns but fridge still isn't cold.

First I would check cold control. Thats where you turn it off, if your temp is not warm. it seems
to be defective and not shutting off. If your temp is warm proceed with the following.
I would check the fan in the freezer. Listen to see if it is running
It moves air to the ref from the freezer
Then check to see if freezer control is turned WARMER, which makes the Ref. colder
Also this might be a common Defrost problem, Ice
is not being melted by the defrost system. The fan can't blow through the coils into the fridge.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater, heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath
Check cold control (thats where you turn it colder)

We just bought a used Fridgedaire, a basic one. It apparently was unplugged for a while. It's now been running for a day and a half. Freezer seems to be fine but fridge isn't working AT ALL.

There is a fan inside the unit. Make sure that it is running. That's how the cold air gets from the freezer to the fresh food side. Hope this helps.

My freezer seemed to have quit so I cleaned it out made sure the air flow was good and de-iced everything. Now the bottom of the freezer freezes but the top does not nor does the ice maker work. What do...

open the freezer door,do you hear the fan blowing around?it sounds like the evap fan motor isn't running and that's why it's cold on the bottom and not the top,you have to repair this fast or you'll loose your food in the fridge, the fan is what blows the cold air from the freezer to the fridge section.

Error code ER FF

The error indicates the freezer fan is not functioning properly. The fan supplies cold air to the refrigerator that is why it seems warmer.
The fan may be frozen, try unplugging it for a few hours to let it thaw. Also check to see if something may have gotten into the vent holes in the freezer that could be blocking the fan from turning.
