Hi, I purchased a pair of MSP7 studio monitors from USA and plugged them in UK without step down transformer. The green light was ON for about 2 seconds and then it was OFF. Then I bought a transformer and tired to connect again, however the green light does not go ON anymore. Are these burned now and is it possible to repair them? Thanks, Alex

I managed to open it. It looks like the power supply is 250V - model SKP0228-1678. It has 2 fuses, but both look ok. I wonder if Yamaha actually always make it with 220-240 V power supply but explicitly convert it for USA to 110-120 V?

Thanks Jee, found another fuse which is on the board connected to the power switch. This one is blown. I'll go to local technician tomorrow and she should be able to replace it. Thanks for your help!

Power supply built in speaker box seems damaged and possibly a fuse or transformer got blown, local technician will check it by opening lower rear panel of speaker box and will replace blown part.
Hope these info will help.

If power rating info (written on sticker) shows speaker has ability to work on 110V AC to 240V AC then it should work in US and UK without any problem and if shows specifically 110V AC then its internal parts would be installed only to work on 110V AC

What can I do about my flood-damaged monitors?

I would strongly suggest putting an insurance claim and replacing them. Water damaged cabinets may swell and come unsealed over time, as well as the speakers themselves and the electronics degrading faster than you might expect.

I need a transformer for my resolv 65a monitor

Are you an experienced tech? In most cases (unless there is a defect in manufacturing) transformers are not a common cause for failure. If it blows the fuse disconnect the secondaries and see if it still blows the fuse. If it does then the transformer is likely the cause, if the fuse doesn't blow then the problem is elsewhere. If you have 120vac at the primary and nothing(or very low) at the secondary(s) then the transformer could also be at fault. If you have done this already and narrowed it down to the transformer, sorry I cannot help. I used service Samson but no longer am able to get parts. Good luck!

I have a Yamaha is 50m studio monitor. Is there any way to open the back of these something is rattling around inside a loose wire or something

you can either drop out the woofer by removing the screws holding it in or remove the back panel ( #2 phillips screwdriver ) those are the easiest ways into the cabinet.

Transformers RARELY fail. It is likely that either one side of the amplifier has shorted or there is a failure in the rectifier/filter circuit of the power supply. Take it for repair unless you are adept at electronic repair. Do NOT continue to replace the fuse as you MAY cause futher damage. Use a 25 or 40 watt lamp in series with your power cord to limit current while troubleshooting.

Did you just use adapters or actual step-down transformers?
A lot of equipment today is 110/220 auto-switching, but if you get something built for 110V (120V, 100V, markings may vary) only, then you need more than an adapter, you need a transformer!

Is it possible to connect the unbalanced 1/4" jack outputs of Apogee's Duet to the balanced XLR inputs of Yamaha MSP7 monitors? What cables should be used?

It is possible and depends on the length of cables you will need. If you are using a fairly long run of say 50 feet, I would put a DI box with "ground lifted" to convert from unbalanced to balanced. If the cables are short, then you can probably use a unbalanced 1/4 inch plug to XLR adapter and an XLR to XLR cable between the adapter and the speakers. The system should be safe and should NOT cause any damage. Remember to run the whole interconnected system from ONE receptacle or power source.
