There are several different possibilities.
if you have image on the screen other than the vertical line then it's likely the plasma display itself. There are some ICs in it which somtimes go bad and when one does it may short the whole section or just damage the image for a few inch wide vertical line (or a hairline, depending on how it fails).
Another possibility is a thick vertical line with no image at the back. That's YSUS failure (rarely) or buffer board failure (usually).

i would need more information but it sounds like your panel has gone bad. the panel is not a part worth replacing due to its price. it will cost you the same if you purchase a new tv.

If it's a single thin red line then there's nothing you can do about it. It's just an address driver buffer transistor gone bad and since those are embedded in the plasma display fabric you can't repair them.
if it's a wider line then you may want to look at the following:http://blog.coppelltvrepair.com/2010/10/...
P50HDTV20A is known to come in two completely different implementations - one is a Samsung license and the other is an LG license.
The above link is relevant for the LG based version of P50HDTV20A.
Hope this helps!
