Changing CD drive

I need to change the CD drive on a Gateway M250e. It will not boot from disk and I need to re-image it.

That is the first thing I did and it did not work. I think the drive itself is bad... I just cannot see how to get it apart and replace it.

UNMOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME ERROR ON GATEWAY GM5045E WITHOUT RECOVERY OR WINDOWS XP DISC.

An unmountable boot volume error suggests that you may have a hard disk failure or at least some corruption to the hard disk which the system uses to boot Windows XP.
To try to resolve this problem you would need to use a specialist boot CD to try to repair the disk errors. One such disk is Hiren's Boot CD which can be downloaded as a CD image file (.ISO) then would need to be burnt on to a blank CD then the computer booted from this CD.
On the initial Hiren's boot menu, select DOS programs, then select Disk tools before selecting HDAT2 to perform the disk repair actions.
HDAT2 can take some time to complete depending on the size of your internal disk drive and the number of bad sectors or other errors encountered - the tool will attempt to repair bad sectors by reading, verifying, writing and re-reading / verifying the data.
If the disk can be recovered, then you may be lucky and the system will be able to boot but otherwise, you may still need to do some further recovery work for the operating system, in which case you may need a Windows install CD or other recovery CD media.

If HDAT2 finds a lot of unrecoverable errors then you should seriously consider replacing the drive - you should be able to recover data from the old drive using other tools on the Hiren's Boot CD, including booting the CD mini-XP environment and using the tools there too.

Laptop wont boot up after installing Genius F610

you need to run a nifty little program called Spinrite on your laptop. You can download it via BitTorrent HERE

you will need to use a program to burn the ISO image onto disk and make it bootable. I use PowerISO . It is very easy and straight forward. You can download it HERE (use the name: Dr.Upload
serial: SKSIP-7AIX1-8YWEZ-U197K-T88IE ) to remove restrictions.

Open the iso file using PowerISO. Now we have to make it a bootable disk image. Spinrite comes with FREEDOS instaled, but most laptops don't like using it.
Follow directions here on making a bootable image.

after burning your disk boot your system up with the cd. when you get to a prompt , ie C:\\ you will need to change it to your default cd drive mine is E:
after changing the drive letter type SPINRITE
the program will start - follow onscreen directions and change scan level to 5. after program finishes reboot after removing disk.

Can not boot up my computer i cant find my windows disk that came with my comp is their any other way to boot it up

You can call Gateway and order a replacement CD for $30 or so. If you have a friend with an Operating System disk, borrow it. As computer turns on, press key to enter BIOS (usually F2) and find where it says "Boot Order". Set the CD drive to boot first. restart the computer, Press any key when prompted. Use the COA label on your computer for a serial number. Being a Gateway, you will need an OEM disk for this, but can be any OEM. You will have to change the product key on activation. Do not tell Microsoft you used a different CD, or they will blacklist you. Once the activation is complete, your COA should work fine.

Ibm thinkpad T40 Hard Drive change out

After fdisk and format you need to ensure that operative system is installed into yor hard drive. Using ghost you restore the image disk by booting from ghost image CD if you made a bootable image disk. Ensure Bios is set up to boot from CD.
If you used Norton Ghost ensure you captured the image of full bootable original hard disk drive for same computer. If it does not boot after restoring ghosted image, than the image it is probably not complete. If hard disk image is not good, easiest thing to do is using Windows install CD to installl again operative system, then you eventually restore ghost image.
