Okay, are you saying you can't watch DvDs ? I would highly recomend not watching DvD's on PS2, especially HD movies. The PS2 does not have the hardrive to read most movies perfectly.

Take it into a games store and get them to try and fix it. (They will most likely take it in and test the console out and put one of their memory cards in and try it), and they will try to sort out the problem. =]
Sounds like you need to clean the lens on your PS2. The best solution is to find a DVD player lens cleaner from a local electronics store (make sure it is a good quality one, don't buy the cheapest one) and put it into your PS2 disc tray. It will play the disc using the DVD player on the PS2. Make sure you follow the directions for the lens cleaner very carefully, as you don't want to accidentally scratch your lens.
That should help with the reading issues. Good luck!
Hi. It seems that you might have an old version of the PS2.
The original PS2's had a problem with the laser that read CDs and DVDs, often failing, creating problems with reading DVDs and in rare cases, CDs.
Unfortunately, the class action lawsuit filed against Sony is too old to get yours fixed for free, but there are ways to attempt to fix the laser yourself, if you would rather not send it in to Sony.
I have read that some manufacture PS1 memory cards will not work properly on the PS2. I would suggest trying another PS2 to see if it's a problem with your specific PS2. If the memory card doesn't pop up on the browser screen of another PS2, it could be defective or incompatible. If it does work on another PS2, it could be something weird going on with your memory card slot on your PS2.
If its not an original disc, meaning if it was copied or burnt, then this will happen. However if it is in fact an original PS2 disc, then I'd suggest taking it out, cleaning and trying again.
what may have happened is that the saved files for GT4 on your memory card have now become corrupt, and the disk when put in the suysstem is trying to read the data from the card, simply deleting your saved GT4 data from the memory card should allow the disk to play as normal.
