I found it by going to the Support & Drivers section of HP's Web site (www.hp.com), clicking the "Download Drivers and Software" option, entering "Scanjet 8250", clicking the Go button, and then clicking on the "Manuals" link in the left-hand column about 3/4 of the way down the page.

If LCD displays Error 06 or Error 09 , the TMA might require service
Press SCAN PICTURE button once (see Figure 3 above). The TMA lamp should turn on (see Figure 4 above). If pressed a second time, the TMA lamp turns off (if TMA is detected). NOTE: The scanner carriage lamp should be off when the TMA lamp is on and should be on when the TMA lamp is off. The only time the TMA could not be detected is if the accessory cable is not plugged into scanner
