Now is a great time to remove the deck and sharpen the blades! In the process, you will find your problem. Look for clogs, seized bearings, freely rotating belts, etc... The problem is in the deck or drive belt. Hope this helps!
Remove the PTO drive belt to the deck, and engage the blades again. If the motor dies still, the pto clutch or drive pulley is the problem. If cluch engages, and the motor continues to run, look at the air filter, and mixture screw. If the fuel mixture is off, the motor will sputter and die under load.
how do i adjust the carb on this as it says in book it only has a idle mixture screw and a idle set screw kohler 20hp
Use the idle mixture screw. Mark where its at first, then adjust it 1/4 of a turn in one direction or the other. Keep doing this and trying the blades after each adjustment until it gets better or worse, then go the other direction from your marked starting point. Also be sure the float is not sticking in the carb. Try tapping the bowl with a small hammer or wrench. (Not too hard!) You may need to diassemble the carb and clean all the ports and needle valve. If nothing is jammed or seized in the deck, and the clutch works, the next thing has to be the engine aspiration.
