First of all you must confirm if the fault is relative of the monitor or the PS3. So cross connect using a TV or another device to confirm the problem unit.
Once you have confirmed that the fault is with the monitor then switch off power and allow the set to power down and reset as it can be a fault with the processor which has hung up the source. If this wont solve then the monitor must be checked using a signal source to inject and infer so as to confirm the area of fault in the audio section..

Hi,
Welcome to Fixya. If the volume is not working on the monitor the next thing you need to check is the HDMI cable. If possible to replace the cable so that we can determine the problem if this is caused by the cable, the monitor or the PS3. You can also try to connect the PS3 to a different TV using the same cable and see if you will hear a sound. Please let me know what happen so that we can continue troubleshooting.
Thanks

Had to select memory recall off the monitor menu. Not quite sure what was wrong but that fixed it.

I'd check in the control panel under sounds and see what the system thinks the output device is. Probably not the speakers. If not, change the output to your computer speakers.

All of a sudden, no sound on PS3, great pic though. Using HDMI cable...have checked all connections, reset PS3, etc. Still no sound! Guy from Sony said my HDMI cable(Monster) could be bad?! No sound, but...

I agree with the guy from Sony, the reason for this is the HDMI cable should support the transfer of audio and video over the same cable, if your only getting video over it, the cable could be defective, or its possible that you have another cable in the spot where speakers should go that is over riding the HDMI.

What exactly is the HDMI cable plugged into? Is it direct from TV to PS3?
If you have a stereo set lying around that supports HDMI - try having it run through that.
Is the TV muted? check if you can get sound while watching normal TV channels.
Worst comes to worst, use RCA Plugs remembering that the composite video is (yellow) and stereo audio is (white and red). You don't need to connect the composite video, but connect the stereo audio.

If this did not solve the problem, please leave a comment and I'll get back to you once I can =)

PS3 no longer communicating with TV

The problem is with your PS3 itself.
If it's still under warranty, take it back.

Playstation 3 audio connection into Yamaha HTR-6040 AV Receiver

Is Yamaha HTR-640 a receiver? Try HDMI from PS3 to receiver or Sony HDTV. If HDMI from PS3 to receiver the you need and HDMI from receiver to out Sony HDTV. You could connect everything to receiver and HDMI out to HDTV. You can not have an HDMI cable AND an optical cable coming out of the PS3, only one or the other.
