Bulova began using a series of codes in the late 40's to date watches, look on your case for a letter followed by a number,the letter designates the decade,A=40's,L=50's,M=60's,.N=70's,P=80's,T=90's and the following number designates the year, an example would be,M4 would indicate 1964. Hope this helps,the serial numbers are used for identification purposes only

SOURCE: Day, date and time for a Bulova TFX watch

Step 1. When the second hand re a ches 12 o ’ clock (the zero or 60th second mark ) , pull the crown all the way to the “OUT ”position (you will hear two “ cl i ck s ” ) .All hands will stop.

Step 2. Turn the crown to move hands FORWARD (clockwise) until you see the date (for date only) or both day and date change.This establishes midnight, t h e b e ginning of the day.

Step 3. For A.M .time, continue to move hands forward until the minute hand is approxim a t e ly 5 minutes beyond the desired minute marker ;then ,gently turn b a ck to the same marke r. For P. M .time , follow the same procedure ,but first a dvance  the hands past 12 o’clock .

N O T E : The date will advance automatically at midnight, p rovided that A . M .a n d P. M .h ave been established (Steps 2 and 3).The watch calendar is pro grammed for a 31-day cycle.The  refore ,on the fi rst day of any month fo l l owing a month with fewer than 31 day s , the date must be advanced manually (see Step 5).

Step 4. When the time standard by which you are setting your wa t ch ( e.g.,telephone beep) re a ches the 60th second, push the crown all the way to the “ I N ”position . All hands will start instantly.

Step 5. Pull the crown to the “ I N T E R M E D I AT E ”position (one “ cl i ck ” ) . Your watch will continue to tell time. S l ow ly turn crown one way until the correct date a p p e a rs .Then for day/date models, s l ow ly turn crown the other way until the correct day appears .

N O T E : The day is printed in two successive positions on the day indicator: i n English and in Spanish on U. S .m o d e l s ; in English and in Fre n ch on Canadian mode l s It is possible to make use of either position. The display will automatically re m a i n in the language ch o s e n .
The date should never be ch a n ged manu a l ly between 9:00 P. M . and 3:00 A . M .a s this might affect the calendar mechanism and the accuracy of the date. ( Theme chanism will not be damaged if the crown is turned accidentally during this
time peri o d ,howeve r. )

Hope it helped U!

SOURCE: I have a Bulova Caravelle

Hi. If you take a tiny screwdriver (one that you might use to screw a screw into an eyeglass and run it gently around the back you will feel an indentation where you can insert the tip and pop open the back. The battery is easy to access but trying to get the back back on is the problem! Good Luck.

SOURCE: i have a bulova accutron with a 14KT gold case.

Since the serial number (E66289) begins with a letter, the watch was made in the United States. (Serials that begin with a number indicate the watch was made in Switzerland.) Look at the back again and see if there's a two-character code, such as M2. Compare the code against the list on the following link to find the year of manufacture: http://www.thewatchguy.com/pages/BulovaSerial.html

If it's an Accutron, visit this site to see if it's a 214. He's got a wealth of info on 214s! Good luck!

SOURCE: Match the year of my Rolex Explorer 1 from the serial number

I would expect Rolex to have a record of all their watches and if you contact your nearest dealer, they should be able to help you.

You can find a store guide on their web site "rolex.com"

I have a Bulova Watch that was given to a Clark Candy employee with a Serial Number of 523791. Looking for what year it was made and is it worth anything

The value of your watch depends greatly on the model / style, age, and case composition. It goes without saying, but watches (of any mechanical quality) that have real gold cases right now are worth quite a bit more than watches with gold plated, gold filled, gold-tone, or stainless steel cases. Presentation watches like those given to employees upon retirement were often gold or gold-filled--but there's a world of difference in value between those two types of watches.

In terms of age, it's much easier to date vintage Bulova watches by their "year code" than by their serial number. If you look carefully, usually above or below the serial number, you'll see a little alphanumeric code, like L5, N3, or P6. These can be translated as follows:

Lx = 195x Mx = 196x Nx = 197x Px = 198x Tx = 199x

Pre-1947 Bulova watches used little symbols to show the year of manufacture. A picture of those codes can be found here, as well as elsewhere on the Internet:

I NEED TO KNOW YEAR OF BULOVA LADIES WRIST WATCH ITS 10 KT AND I HAVE A SERIAL NUMBER z78782. it has bulova ms on back

A Bulova "M5" code would indicate that the watch was made in 1965. Vintage Bulova watches can be dated by this little alphanumeric code:

Lx = 195x Mx = 196x Nx = 197x Px = 198x Tx = 199x

Pre-1950 Bulova watches used a variety of symbols and numbers (e.g., 47 and 48 to designate 1947 and 1948) to show the model year of the watch. A chart of those symbols can be found here: http://www.manleyhorlogerie.com/Watch_History/bulova.htm#Bulova%20Date%20Codes

I'm unable to find information anywhere on this watch, so am really hoping you can help. The watch in question is a ladies Bulova, stamped BULOVA 14K on the back of the case (at one end) and on the...

This is just a personal suggestion that I have.
It sounds like you have a vintage Bulova watch and unless there is a watchmaker near you who deals with vintage watches (they are hard to come by!) you will have to rely on the internet but it could be a time consuming project.
What I would do, is go to www.google.com , type in vintage 14 kt Bulova, or 14 kt Bulova, or similar combination, and click on the IMAGE link (second tab at the top of page) and it will bring up every image on the internet of 14 kt bulova watches, etc. Look for the one that looks like yours and then go to the site that has that photo.. It might be helpful
Whatever you do, you have a good watch, Dont get rid of it as the gold is valuable, even if the watch does not work.
Please let me know if this is helpful at all. JKN

I just purchased a vintage Seiko automatic DX and I can't figure out how to change the date and day that appears on the watch.

mcdevfito75 here"s how to change the day and date on your vintage Seiko watch, Pull the stem out to the set position and simply turn the stem (winder) every second time around to the 1--2 3 O"oClock position the day will chage, once you get the day push in the stem in all the way, NOW with your fingernail just under the stem (winder) gently lift the stem up to it"s first notch or position, with the stem at this first notch or position, you can turn the stem and the hands won"t move but the date(number) will change, simply go to the correct number / date and your done, push the stem back in a your ready to go.
