Turn off ignition. Press and hold the trip reset button, then turn the ignition on (don't start the engine), within 5 sec the SIA status will be displayed. Release the reset button. Press and hold the trip reset button for 5 sec, "rst" will be displayed. Release and re-press trip reset button.

The new status should be displayed.

The oil filter is on the right rear corner of the engine as you look at it from the front of the car. It is an aluminum cap with a 36mm nut on the top.

One method describes just turning the key to position 2 and giving it about 30 seconds and that it will reset on its own. A manual method is described here:

You rent (or buy) a piston retractor tool. It screws the piston back in place. I found mine for around $50. Saves a lot of time and aggrevation to use the tool.

The dial should come up slowly to just a hair above the center point. This should happen within the first few minutes of driving.

2004 Mini Cooper S. I have changed the battery, the alternator and the belt. The battery light is not on except when I crank it does it need to be reset? Can I reset it myself? Please help.

Number 1 tip when changing batteries is to maintain 12 volts to the battery connectors during the change over. You can do this with a battery minder, a battery charger, jump leads or just a couple of lengths of wire.

You need to reset the security system immobilizer.

My 2005 mini cooper went in for minor service basically an oil change (everything else running perfectly) and now it won't start - mechanic asked for spare key and that didn't work.

Hello!
Why did your mechanic used his computer (notebook) for resetting service warning? It can be reset by holding the trip button and turn the ignition on, then release at reset message, then press again trip, until the message flashes and then release and press short again.

You can try to reset BCM by disconnecting battery leads, leave it one hour, then reconnect, turn the ignition, without starting the car, wait one minute, then start the car.

2004 mini cooper key fob not working

Open the FOB and replace the battery. The two halves of the fob come apart and there is a battery that you can replace.

Mini cooper s won't start

Remove battery terminals and clean both posts and terminals
with sandpaper until you see shiny metal. The black coating is lead sulphate which has a high resistance to current flow both into and out of the battery. Even though you say the battery is charged it still fails if there is a bad cell in the battery. have a load test done on the battery to confirm that the battery is good .

Car started fine and now doesn't. The battery seems to be fine (new). No error code. Any suggestions?

Try removing the Neg battery terminal for about 30sec. This will effectively (re-set) the main computer to default factory specs. It worked on my 2004!! Also might have an ODB2 code reader run by you local auto parts dealer. They can get the codes too.
Have fun,
