HP recommended checks: 1. adequate 120 VAC power supply, 2. Remove Fuser Assembly, wait 5 minutes and then reseat. 3. Reset the printer to Factory Default settings (remember to copy down the IP address, mask and gateway numbers first).
While this may solve the problem, it is much more likely it's time to replace the fuser. Cost is approx $125 if you buy it online. Just do a Google search on HP 2840 fuser.
