Carefully check the Colector Voltage on the Final and the driver during transmit. Use the AM Carrier power to adjust the collector voltage. If that doesn't work, you still have a problem in the Voltage regulator and audio amp area or the final or driver collector pin is shorted out causing the voltage regulator issue. Also check the Bias voltage of the final and driver. There are thermal diodes in the output circuit that can go bad too, They will make you think that the final and/or driver transistors are bad. Also chec the predriver transistor voltages. A service manual will help you figure out what the correct voltage should be.

  • The Galaxy 44 has 1 final and 1 voltage regulator not "finals." I doubt it is putting nothing out although it may look like it on a watt meter. Check VR16 (low power adjustment for the amp) and VR 13 (High power adjustment) for the amp in the radio. That radio has a variable power so make sure the pots were not turned out of whack. Check VR 14 as well. this is your AMC modulation pot adjustment.

  • Test the driver as well as the pre-driver. Check your microphone to make sure the wiring is good and the PTT is functioning.

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Galaxy dx-44v wont power on

check near the rear of the radio.. around the power input connection and the audio transformer there should be a 1n4001 diode.. check it for a short. replace it if it is.. and it should power up.. also in the same area check for any shorted traces.. on the circuit side.. also
on the sides of rci main board radios near the bracket screws theres a transistor voltage regulator.. make sure its connected to the board.. sometimes they come loose.

Can you turn the rf gain pod up for better receiving

Yes you can turn up VR pot inside to recieve max level but will cause noise to be max too. I don't rightfully remember which one does it but I'll refer you to Defcom cb radio mods for a spec sheet
or Snakedoctors cb radio mods google site. Go to these radio mods sites on Google search and type in radio model. It will tell you what Vr inside to turn up RX of RF gain. Turn up modulation and written instruction if you are handy with solder gun how to change a resistor or cap to make it more sensitive recieve. How to replace final stage and resistors to 1/2 watt size for 6 more watts output and spread coils 1/8 inch apart like a comb for 100% microphone loudness or swing output. say 3 watts to 40 watts output. More windshield wiper swing in meter makes loud voice and extends range with Power final boost. Most people prefer to keep a mobile at around 11 watts swing to 45 watts.(but on generic radio meter will show 2 to 5 watts-its not accurate just a cheap indicator you are forward swing). Even though factory says 4 watts FCC hogwash. They come tuned from Cobra with 11 watts to 14-22 watts.Cobra really peaks them babies so competition doesn't beat them out like new louder radios made by Galaxy 55. Even though law says blah blah (corporations bend it)sales pitch Galaxy very heated with Cobra on the game(rich can do what they want)Galaxy is 20 watts factory with big promise to 40 watts dual finals. So Cobra updated and said "screw it we will break the law too" Now Cobra is loud as ever and offering their own super mod versions and dual final radios with 45 to 65 watts output with ranges on SSB & USB of 1500 miles on a strong good outdoor antenna.

I have a galaxy 44v it transmits on fm but receives on am what can i do to fix this problem

Replace the AM final, then make sure your antenna is tuned to lowest SWR to prevent the final from burning out again.

Quiet Galaxy DX 44V

Sounds like you have lost a final or a driver transistor if so a shop or reputable repairman is your best answer. You should also have him check your cables and SWR on your antenna system as well as check for loose grounds. Sounds like you had a high SWR and blew out a final transistor. But it could be as simple as a loose component or cold solder joint in the radio. Get professional help.

Does the galaxy dx 44 v have dual finals ? thanks

No, the Galaxy DX44V is a single final radio. It is a 1969 transistor (tr43) mounted on the rear chassis in between the RF driver amp transistor (tr44) and the antenna jack.

I have a 77 that has got hardly any swing anymore.it keys 3-4 watts and won't swing past about 8 watts.i used to get 25 watts plus swing out of it. i have replaced the finals and it did not help.any ideas?

Is this just on the AM side or also on SSB?
If you type in 77HML or Galaxy 77HML in your Search Block, you should have a listing for cbtricks.com. and it should say Manual. This will give you Schematics,Transistor Voltages,Parts Placement and Specifications anything you would need is on this page. There are 3 Transistors on the Back Right Corner of the Radio looking at the part side,TR-49 is a predriver for TR-50 and TR-51,which are your AM Modulation Transistors.Hope this helps you out.

Hey guys i have a galaxy 44v, i had two radio checks, on guy said it sounded like i had a pin on my nose and one said i was a little distorted, so what is going on the radio, is dead keying 0.5 watt and...

That radio is clipped and producing as much audio it can and in the process it is also a big splatter box. If you produce 4 watt of carrier and swing 6-7 it will be kinder one everyone ears around you.In other words make sure tr 32 is intact, r49 is not clipped and the amc is not turned wide open.should be marked am mod.I am a Ham Radio Operator that has 15 years of motorola experience. Hope this helps.
