Ok thanks for reposting with the model number,

Now then my other question is; does it spin without pausing such as it pauses in the agitation mode??

If yes it does also pause in the spin mode i would suspect the lid switch as being the problem, but however you did not mention that it pauses in the spin i am going to assume it spins fine and thusly believe the problem with it pausing only in the wash mode is going to a problem with the main control board, sincein the past on that exact style washer the water level part of that control board would think it wasn't full of water and pause while it finally determined that the water level was correct and start again. By replacing the control board the washer should work fine and no longer pause in the wash mode.

The part number for that control board is WH12X10176 it could be purchased at your local appliance parts store or online at

I replace the agitator and spline on ge space maker combo washing machine and am wondering if there was a gasket or something low on the shaft to help keep agitator stable? On the diagram there is a s

Maybe you have a broken plastic tab on the inside of the agitator that is causing the agitator to rock back and forth. if you don't have the agitator pushed all the way on, you should see it lift up when unit fills with water. Might even be rubbing against the bottom of the lid if it lifts high enough.

Why do i have to lift the lid to restart my washing machine

The limit switch that senses that the lid is closed is probably either out of mechanical adjustment or needs replacement due to internal contact wear.

Whirlpool Sm8525079 Rev fills up with water, but won't agitate.

Your lid switch has a fault, Sometimes the switch can bend which means that it won't always operate.

GE WHDRR418 top load washer won't spin at high speed; the washer does the complete cycle, and agitates in both directions and does physically spin, but it will not go into the 'high speed' spin that...

we can eliminate the motor and the switch since that part is working. sound like your timer might be faulty, timer make everything work in persistence cycles, if its goes bad sometime it tend to jump/skip cycles.

Machine won't drain or spin.

The whole top assymbly has to be lifted off. Sometimes, you can gain access to the switch from the rear panel without removing the top. I just replaced one for my mother last November. I was able to get to it without removeing the top cover. Some are just not easy.

Drawstring tangled under agitator on an older GE washing machine.

You should be able to unscrew the top cap of the agitator ( may be left hand thread ) and lift off the agitator once the cap is off... They sometimes stick so you may have to muscle it to remove that cap..once lifted should be able to untangle the string that is caught..
