Hi, I have recently renewed my Motherboard and processor as my previous one died after a power surge. I have installed a Gigabyte s-series motherboard and dual core processor & upgraded to a new 450 watt power supply , however when I turn on the PC the cooling fans work but nothing else, not getting any bleeps, Monitor not receiving signal ( I have tried another monitor still nothing). Any ideas on what could be wrong and how I can get it working? Thankyou. Regatds Runningman
The RAM is definitely compatible and what size PSU do you suggest?
Can you also tell me why the 450 watt cant power up the mobo?
I appreciate your help

The fans and indicators working for a sec would normally mean that your power supply is Ok. This flash of current must trigger a switch in the mobo to start the boot process. This is not happening. The RAM is a principal player here if it does not connect the memory to the processor nothing will happen. Assuming the RAM is correct and has worked faultlessly before, remove and clean the teeth with an eraser. This prob can also be caused by the VGA card not connecting. Usually alarms sound if your mobo speaker is connected but that depends on each mobo. These are basic steps that usually start machines that have been inactive for a time or have recently been exposed to high humidity. There could be other faults...............
If you "popped" the power supply, I would check to see if the RAM might have taken a hit as well. Ram chips and CPU are sensitive when it comes to power surges. I would troubleshoot the system, unplug everything. you need monitor, power, cpu, and ram (1 at a time). Check to see if the system will POST. if you do get it to POST, start with 1 item at a time and see if the system will POST every time. If nothing happens, there is a chance you may have a damaged motherboard or cpu.
Usually this symptom has to do or with memory modules with problems or the VGA adapter (integrated) could be damaged. First try to reset the BIOS of *********** taking out the battery and using the reset jumpers informed in the Mother Board manual. Then put the battery and the jumpers back to the factory default position and try again. If this doesn't work, try to plug the power cord to another 220V as the ground could cause this type of problems. You can also try to install another VGA adapter to check if you receive the VGA signal in your monitor. Hope it helps... Please tell us about your progress. Best regards Eduardo
First step is to check and make sure that all cables are connected properly and that the RAM is seated properly. Also are you using onboard video or an add on card?
May I know the model of your gigabyte mobo, you just replaced your unit with.
'cause it may not be compatible with the new power suply you have upgraded with.
Could be the power supply is not strong enough to power the system. Replace the power supply with one that is between 350 - 450 watts. This should provide ample power to the system.
Can you explain why I need a more powerful supply as I was advised by the parts supplier that 450 watts would be fine??
