The camera and computer no longer communicate. After I plug in UBS into comp. there is no response. The camera finally turns off. I have tried several times but nothing happens.

Cannon x100, say don't read camera card, will not export pictures from camer to computer

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

I have a Canon Powershot SX100 but have lost the disc to download on my computer. How can I download my pictures without this software?

If you have Windows XP you should just be able to plug in the camera via USB cable and download them, no problem. I never use any software that comes with a camera, you don't need it.

Here's the Canon page for your camera:
