Select spanner(wrench) for setup menu.
Scroll down through the menu, there are five pages of menu items on my camera! it moves to a new page when you move off the bottom.
The language option is the penultimate item - it has an icon of a head with a speech bubble.

There may be a simple fix to this problem.
Find a friend that has a cybershot of the same model as your own. In their camera, open the menu and navigate to the language setting. While you do this count how many times you press the button. Example:
-camera settings 1
-personal settings 3 press ok
-storage type 1
-date and time 2
-language 3 press ok
-english 2 press ok
Although the language is different, the number of spaces should be the same, so even though you can't read it to change the language, you should be able to count it out. Or if you are lucky you may have a Japanese friend who can read it.
Hope this helps

Does this help? "Changing the Language Setting" is located on the first page towards the bottom. It instructions of the symbols you select to reach the language section.
If this doesn't work could you try using google translate the locate the language section?

Slide the [REC]/[PLAYBACK] switch to the REC position (camera icon). Set the mode dial to AUTO (green camera). Press MENU/SET to display the menu. Select LANGUAGE (head with speech bubble). Pick your language from there.
