Why does my washer (maytag mah5500bww front loader) make noise during the wash/rinse cycles but not during the spin.?

The noise could be from a loose wire harness, plastic purse-lock wire harness retainer on the upper hose hitting the top cover ir a plastic injector mold standoff on the outer tub bearing housing, also a flat spot in the belt could cause a tapping noise. Something between the outer tub and wash basket. I have had to remove items lodged in the drain tube between the pump and tub, like bra under wires. Sometimes you can squeeze the tube and feel objects the ate lodged. I always take the tube off the tub side and run my finger all the way down to the pump impeller to make sure. I also check the I can spin the impeller and the nothing is in the pump. Hard to say with out being there. Where do you think the noise is coming from top , bottom , left , or right side?

Loud in spin cycle/throws oil

If the pulley wobbles, it sounds like a bad bearing, and that could account for the oil/grease. One more thing you might check, mine acted bad in the spin cycle, but mine was the leveling spring at the bottom of the drum. The way to tell from the top is if the drum tends to lean forward instead of being centered when sitting. Good luck.

Loud noise during washing/rinsing cycles

I just replaced the bearings on my Front loader Maytag MAH5500B, as it sounded like a freight train during the spin cycle. The bearing replacement fixed the train problem.

NEW PROBLEM NOW: It's been about a month now since the bearing job and now something is clicking/binding when you spin the back belt wheel. I have taken the belt off and carefully move the wheel and I still get this clicking noise. It sounds as if someone is hitting the plastic drum that the tub is surrounded by. I really doubt it's the bearings this soon, as the sound is not the same! No leaks or metal shavings to speak of or rubbing of the belt wheel.

Seems like it's more noticeable during the wash/rinse cycles then the spin.

Can anyone help.???

During short spin cycles between rinses it doesn't pump water out

Try looking to see if the little motor is spinning the drain pump. It is in the bottom right. Occasionally I get a small metal shard which locks the pump and therefore-no draining. You can undo everything and check the pump for blockage. Then if need be, replace the mechanisim. The parts are all on line, as is the manual. or call 800 776-3538

Maytag Atlantis 7700 - Noisy agitation/wash cycle from motor

Your drive motor may be fine. Check the water pump that is located in the back behind the small metal door on the left bottom corner and see if thats where your noise/water is coming from. These extraction pumps have bearings casing that gets mangled and locked up. Look right above the flywheel that the belt rides on in the W-pump.

Grinding sound from washer

the pully is the drain pump they can go bad or may have somthing in it, pump is not bad to replace part us usually 40 -60$ , you could burn belt up and be forced to replace it also, but if you replace pump would not be a bad idea anyway belts are 20-30 $

Loud squeal during wash and spin cycles, maytag atlantis washer

Squealing normal occurs due to belt slippage. I would check your belts (look for cracks. Check the belt tension as well, most washers have an adjustment, normally on the motor that allows you to increase the tension of the belt.

If part of a belt gets torn and it is long enough, it will hit any part of the washing machine within range and make a clicking noise at every revolution of the motor.

I am pretty sure you need new belts. You should be able to remove a few screws and open the back cover. Between the pulleys there is a tensioner...loosen that so you can remove the belt easily. replace it with a new belt and adjust the tension.

hope this helps
