I recently replaced the inside of the toilet with a new repair kit. Now I don't get any water coming from under the rim of the bowl when flushed. I used a hanger and poked at holes under the rim. Still no water coming from under the rim. Toliet was fine before repair, just slow.

SOURCE: toilet water wont go down

I have found on many occasions this problem was caused by an obstuction in the internal trap of the toilet. Everything from toothbrushes to Batman figurines have been removed from them. If you intend to do the repair yourself you can use a closet augerwhich is a manual cable snake tool that will be inserted into the bowl of the toilet and the cable ran through the toilet's internal trap to clear obstructions. You could also rent a hand held electric auger that is basically a drill with a drum attached with a drum with coiled cable inside that is shoved down the channel the same as the aforementioned product. This device take a bit of finesse and skill as the cable will try to kink and coil up as you go one can get injured doing this. If you find that the toilet is clear of internal obstructions you may have to pull the toilet up as the obstruction may be further down the line. If you rent a medium sized electric auger you can locate the vent stack for the toilet and run your cable down the vent from the roof so you may not have to pull the toilet. This method will only clear obstructions behind the vent connection and not the length from the connection of the vent to the toilet itself. If yo have an elevated house you may have access to a clean out that by most codes are at every change of direction greter or equal to ninety degrees. You also should test your water pressure if all else fails as that specific model must have at least 25 psi at the very least to operate correctly. Hope this helps you out.

SOURCE: tiolet won't flush = water swirls but won't fully flush.

Mine does this too, from time to time. I've found that it usually means there's a plug somewhere down the line that you can't reach with a coathanger. Since I keep forgetting to buy a plunger, I use a johnny mop to vigorously poke in and out of the bottom hole until most of the water in the bowl is gone. After doing that, a couple flushes usually clears the line.

If that doesn't work, you'll probably need to use a snake on it.

The bowl doesn't flush from the front part

If a new toilet, the front holes may not have been cast correctly. If an older toilet it is likely mineral buildup has blocked those holes. A mittor and a coat hanger shoudl suffice to open the holes up, use the mirror to see under the rim lip and use the coat hanger to open the holes- you may need to use a larger clip instead depending on the size of the holes.

I recently replaced the flush valve with the fluidmaster repair kit. Now I don't get any water coming from under the rim of the bowl when flushed. I noticed the rubber gasket wasn't the same, does this...

No, that won't make a difference. Check instead that the tubing from the fill valve that you replaced is connected to the overflow tube (the tall tube). Fluid-master provides a clip for this purpose in their kits.

When my elder tank fills up once in a while it will loose water from the tank without a flush. The water will come on for about five seconds to refill. What do you guys think the problem is?

It's the Flapper or Flush Valve. Get some green or red food coloring and a flashlight. First remove the tank lid and lift the seat and cover up against the tank. Take your flashlight and shine it on the back of the bowl, where the water line is. if you can see water coming down the back side of the bowl and disturbing the calm water ie. making ripples. ( be patient and watch carfully). If you can see the water being disturbed most likely its the Flapper. Now take your flashlight and point it down into the flush valve fill tube. That's the thing that looks like a pipe standing up in the center of the toilet tank coming out of the water about an inch or so. Look for water very slowly pouring into this tube from the inner walls.look from the top all the way to the bottom of the tube. If you see water leaking into the tube you need to replace your "Flush Valve". That's another post... If not, then most likely it's the "Flapper" put the seat back down and sit on it facing the tank. Reach into the tank and lift the flapper up and feel with your fingertip the flapper seat by circling the seat. Like you would a glass rim to make a tone with it. If you feel a nick anywhere on the seat you will need to repair the flush valve flapper seat. If not then you need a replacement flapper. If you cant see/find any of the leak problems as mentioned above then it's time to use the food coloring. Add it to the water in the tank. DO NOT FLUSH ! Let the dye mix with the water and then start to inspect the areas as mentioned above. ( Back of bowl/water line and the fill tube in center of tank). Use the flashlight to find the colored water in the areas as mentioned. Before making any repairs turn the water off to the toilet. PARTS: FLUSH VALVE REPLACEMENT If you need to replace the flapper seat flush valve. Because you found a nick in the seat rim, FLUID MASTER makes a great repair kit for that. Follow their instructions. Hint: Make sure the existing seat is dry before installing the fluidmaster repair kit. Also you get one shot at it. The adhesive is strong you wont be able to pull it back off once you install it. FLAPPER REPLACEMENT Take your old one with you to Lowes/Home Depot and match it up. Hint: Once you put the flapper on, take out most of the slack in the flapper chain when you connect it to the flush handle. once you're happy with testing the dry flush cut the remainder of the chain off with **** ( wire cutters). If the problem is a cracked overflow tube you'll need to replace the flushvalve assembly. If so you may email me at [email protected] and we'll go over that prosess on the phone if you'd like. I hope this helps. Good luck, Mike. ps. Don't forget to click on the hyperlink above for a cut away view of the toilet tank.

I installed a new complete Fluidmaster and filled it up with water but when flushing water comes out under the tank not under the toilet though.

probably needs a "doughnut" tank washer under tank..or try tightening the tank bolt..fluid master comes with a little rubber hose that goes to overflow tube

After flushing, water level in bowl fills and then slowly drops.

Check to be sure small tube is flowing inside the ovefow tube. This is the water that flushes the rim holes, and refills the bowl. If you don't have flow clean or replace the float valve.

TOILET WONT FLUSH AWAY PROPERLY

I believe what your plumber was referring to are the flushing orifices. Yes they have changed through the years. Unless you have a pressure assisted toilet, the orifices are what makes it flush, by breaking the trap seal and creating a vacuum. Now that being said you can check to see if this is the problem by filling up a bucket with aprox. 2 gallons of water and dumping it straight into the bowl. It should flush right down with out hesitation. If it does then your orifices are not working properly. If this is a new stool, it is possible it is just a bad mold and should be replaced. I hope this helps. Your new toilet should flush for you.

Toto toilet has weak flush

Check water level in tank and also under rim off toliet bowl where water come's out. Make sure level in tank is right and it has ports all around rim. they can be clogged up also.

You can use a roofing nail to stick in ports it is several around under rim that you can't see but are there where water comes out. Because if the ports some are stopped up it will restrict proper amount of water to certain areas.

Toilet tank looses water over time

As long as there is no water leaking from the tank to bowl connection, you are OK. You would know if it was leaking here, because you would have water dripping out onto the floor.

Verify that the water level in your tank is below the top of your new flush valve's overflow tube. If the water level comes to the top, it will overflow into the toilet bowl. This can be easily fixed with an adjustment to the fill valve.

If the water is not overflowing into this tube, then the only way you can lose water is through the flapper. You said you changed the flush valve, which would have come with a new flapper attached to it, but maybe buy a new flapper and see what happens???

The flush does not seem to be strong enough. Waste was stopped up. Is there anything I can do to improve volume elimination?

FIRST CHECK THE WATER LEVEL INSIDE THE TANK. MAKE SURE IT IS INLINE WITH THE MARK INSIDE THE TANK. SECOND, GET A TOILET BRUSH AND SCOUR UNDER THE TOILET RIM AND DOWN THRU THE BOWL AS FAR AS POSSIBLE. USE " Comet Bathroom Cleaner", "Soft Scrub Original", "Bon Ami". BY ENSURING U HAVE THE CORRECT WATER LEVEL AND THE HOLES UNDER THE RIM AND THE BOWL IS CLEAN, THE FLUSH SHOULD IMPROVE. DON'T FORGET TO MAKE SURE THE FLAPPER VAVLE OPENS AS IT SHOULD TO ALLOW WATER TO FLOW INTO THE BOWL EFFICIENTLY.
