Hello, welcome to Fixya!

Was this player playing previously? And how long have you been using this player? I suspect the lens of the player. Once the lens of the player becomes weak, it won't play discs any longer.

The first thing my mind goes to, is the lens. The lens id responsible for reading/loading data on discs. So if the lens is unable to read the disc, there is no way the player is going to play the disc.

To confirm if actually its a laser problem, insert an Audio CD into the player and see if will play. If it plays, then obviously, your laser (lens) is weak. But if it doesn't play Audio CD, then it might still be the laser (lens) or probably, a mechanism problem.

Get a lens cleaner, use it to clean the lens. If that doesn't solve the problem, get a screw driver, open the player's cover so that you can gain access to the lens, use a cotton board to clean the surface of the lens. This should clean dust or dirt that might be on the lens.

If non of the above solves the problem, then know that you need to replace the laser to a brand new one.

To replace the lens, remove the bad laser, use it as a sample to get exactly the same type and do the replacement. Note that replacing a laser (lens) needs a professional touch, so if you cannot replace the laser, get it to a repairman to fix it for you.

Once this us done, your player will play all DVD discs again.

Good luck.

Recording Error, Can not record on this disc, E 4 54040990 Just trying to record from TV on a Memorex DVD+RW. Keep getting this error. Any ideas?

Recently started getting the same error message. I thought it was because I was getting to close to full or something that was trying to over fill the discs. Have tried EP and LP and this just started when I had a disc set to record to the end. I can't even open that one or finalize it. The rest do the same. They are working fine and when the error comes up, ZAP the disc is dead, no access.

I also tried putting the same disc into another Magnavox DVD recorder, still no access. These are both the most reliable recorders I've ever owned and I've had a number.

magnavox error message dvd "e 6 2a031000 can not record on this disc."

I suspect at this point, a batch of cheap Nexxtech DVDs. Also it's possible that it's a heat problem with the recorder? Once the disc goes into error mode, it's unreadable and all recordings that haven't been written to the TOC become invisible, but that time is forever lost on the DVD.

DVD is visibly (looking at recording surface) FULL but the supposed record time isn't used up. Data error. Discs reporting wrong size. Try a different brand of DVD.

The drive plays DVDs and can read doc files, but

This problem is normal and exists with many CD/DVD drives.
On some of the drives, if you put in blank discs and try to open the disc in My Computer or Windows Explorer, Windows displays no contents or a blank disc. Whereas on other drives, you get the error message that you mentioned about incorrect function.

What software are you using to burn CDs or DVDs? Are you able to burn CDs but not DVDs or you can't burn both the discs? Did you try a CDs with a different make/manufacturer? Some drives refuse on some disc makes. Try another disc and another writing speed, or try the lowest writing speed available with your software.

Hope that helps,
Regards,

Nec dvd+-rw nd-6650a stop burning dvds

It's time to replace the defective (and probably warranty-expired) unit.

If your computer is a notebook, not a desktop, it's best to take the computer to a qualified technician, to disassemble your computer, and replace the drive.

Not readable.

If the disks do not work on any of the three players they are probably faulty, try buying a spare disk of same kind , or writing a disk from a different pack, it it does work then you bought a box of faulty DVDs, ask a refund.
If disk from different box gives same problem when burned on same computer, then there may be a problem with DVD burning software, try doing a system restore to a recent date,
