SOURCE: Whirlpool MOdel 110 23832100 Lid Switch is broken, need replacing

The following link explains step-by-step how to access the lid and replace it:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3557193-replacing_a_lid_switch

You do not necessarily have to disassemble the entire washer, but you DO need to release the clips that hold the washer casing to the back panel and frame so you can lift the case up enough to access the lid switch. The switch is mounted to the underside of the washer top panel. With the washer case installed, it can be difficult (if not impossible) to access the switch through the wash tub opening. The process is much easier than it sounds and will offer you the best access. Removing the washer case will also offer the quickest method of installation.

If you have not purchased a replacement switch, yet, you can purchase them from any of the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

Prices vary between sites, so shop and compare. the first three sites listed also have helpful exploded view parts illustrations to assist you with locating and properly identifying the parts you may need. If you do not wish to order on line, this is a common part that any appliance parts retailer should carry as part of their in-store inventory. The part number for the model number you provided is 3949238.

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

LS error

The machine control detected that the lid switch is not functioning properly. Raise the top part of the washer to gain access to the lid switch.

Disconnect the machine from the power source. Gently pry the emblem from the front of the machine and remove the T20 torx screw hidden behind it. Slide the top of the washer forward and raise its front. Prop it up high enough to allow easy access to the lid switch.

The lid switch is activated by an actuator (part number 19119) mounted on a hinge. It will not work properly if the actuator is damaged.

Check the operation of the lid switch using a multimeter. Disconnect the lid switch wiring harness and connect the test leads of the multimeter (set to X1 or ohm) to the terminals of the lid switch and activate it. The multimeter should read zero ohms while the lid switch is activated and open when deactivated.

Replace the lid switch if it is broken or if it fails the test above. Remove the lid switch mounting screw and install the new lid switch. Reconnect the wiring harness and slide the top of the washer back into position. Reinstall the T20 torx screw and the emblem.

How do I acces the lid switch on my kenmore washer

The following link explains step-by-step how to access and/or replace the lid switch on a Kenmore top loader:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

Most lid switches are located under the right hand side of the top panel. Some, are located adjacent to either lid hinge. In any case, you still need to remove the washer exterior case to access it. The switch is held in place with a couple of mounting screws with a ground wire attached. This is a very simple repair, but if you experience any difficutlies please let me know. I hop this helps you.

Washer fills up with water then it stops working

Check your lid switch. If the washer fills and agitates, but stops at the rinse cycle, this is a common symptom of a lid switch malfunction. The following link explains how to access and/or replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug.

If the switch is not activated by a lid strike, it will activated by a hinge actuator located next to either the left or right lid hinge. You will need to remove the operator console in order to access this type of switch.

NOTE: On this type of lid switch the lid hinge has a small rod that is used as an acutator to toggle the switch. In many cases, you can adjust the rod by bending it if the switch is not making contact.

If you determine the switch to be defective, a replacement can be purchased on line at searspartsdirect.com, pcappliancerepair.com, repairclinic.com, appliancepartspros.com. All these sites offer competitive pricing, so shop all of them for the best price.

This is a very simple repair, that usually costs about $25 to $35 to repair yourself. If you have questions, or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Ho do you access lid switch

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

To get to the lid switch on a Kenmore Top Load, you have to remove the cabinet.

See GURU JSROCK516 Description of how to remove cabinet and access the transmission. http://www.fixya.com/support/r699497-replacing_gearcase

Basically, you will remove two covers if your model has them, two screws, unolug the lid switch from the console and pull the cabinet forward.

Faulty Lid Switch

A lid switch repair is fairly simple and not expensive if you do it yourself. The following link explains how to access and replace:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385199-replacing_lid_switch_whirlpool_top

Your washer differs slightly from most Whirlpool manufactured top loaders in that your lid switch is located under the operator console next to the left lid hinge. The instructions for access still apply, but you may want to remove the casing from the frame for better access due to the location of the switch. With the console lifted up, you will notice the white plastic lid switch connector plug. Unplug it and remove the mounting to screw to remove the switch.

The switch has a rod from the washer lid inserted through it to act as the actuator for contacting the switch when the lid is down. If you can toggle the switch by hand, all you may have to do is adjust the rod by bending it slightly to make better contact.

If you determine the switch IS defective, the part number is 8318084 and can be purchased at any of the following websites:

searspartdirect.com
appliancepartspros.com
pcappliancerepair.com
repairclinic.com

You can try any web source you like, but I have found these sites to be reliable and have decent prices. If you do not wish to order on line, take the part number provided to your nearest applianceparts retailer. This is a common part that most will carry in their in-store inventory.

If you have any questions about this repair, or need additional assistance, please let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.
