Porter cable 884 cordless drill

Drill bits slip/spin in the keyless chuck. this problem began when the drill was about 3 years old, under light shop use. i replaced the chuck, but the problem continues. this happens with smaller diameter bits.

Most chucks have a tolerance the cordless drills where designed for drill bits 1/8 and larger the 3/8 chucks are a little better with the smaller bits .Check your owners manual and see if they have a min requirement listed for the bit size

Can anyone supplier me with name of supplier or can provide me with chuck gearing for my jcb 24 v [new style] cordless hammer drill

If you are looking to change the keyless chuck to a keyed one, give it up. I cannot get the keyless chuck off my drill and I suspect it has permanent set loctite which would require heating the shaft and chuck. Disassembly would be required to apply enough heat to break the bond. For me I cannot justify time and trouble to disassemble and reassemble the gearbox on the drill. I have found hex or triangular drill bits, hole saws, and countersink tools that will not slip in a keyless chuck but... I still do not like those darn things.

How do I change the bit on my porter-cable 18v drill? Where/how do I line up the black dial with the silver dial to release the bit??

I just looked at some illustrations on ebay of Porter-cable 18 volt drills and they appear to be fairly standard cordless drill/drivers fitted with fairly standard keyless chucks that you get hold of with both hands and twist in opposite directions like you are giving it a Chinese burn. The part of the chuck nearest the bit twists anti-clockwise to loosen.

If you have an SDS drill for heavier duty jobs the chuck is semi-automatic in the drill bit just needs pushing into the chuck and clicks into place but the outer part of the chuck is pulled back in order to release the bit.

Try holding the bit in a vice and gently tap the chuck off of the bit and see it it releases the pressure on the jaws.

How do you remove a bit from a cordless drill?

It should have a keyless chuck, so put the drill in reverse, hold on to the plastic chuck (just behind where the bit connects to the drill) to precent it from spinning and pull the trigger until the chuck loosens. Replace the bit in the reverse order with the drill in "forward."

I hope this helps! :)

We were using a makita cordless power drill. Somehow the clutch got stuck and it won't spin or open where you put the drill bit in. The motor seems to be spinning, think the problem is just in the...

keyless chuck. grab the ring immediately behind the chuck and the tampered chuck piece with a padded channel lock plier. turn the chuck part clockwise to release.

Need to change a keyless chuck

open jaws for large size bit.look in bottom and there will be a screw slot or phillips head screw or possibly an allen head screw.remove this,by possibly turning clockwise. and then chuck up a large allen wrench. try removing the chuck by tapping wrench with hammer. this may be threaded on counterclockwise.have to try both ways.

Drill bit Stuck (and then broke off)!

b94710a.jpg078ca6c.jpg
Keyless chucks have two parts (see pictures) when the drill is in operation both parts spin. Assuming you put the drill bit in and tightened the keyless chuck by hand, put on a work glove and grasp the part of the chuck at the front of the drill, grasp the other part and twist the front part anti clockwise.
If this does not work you can hold the front of the chuck and reverse the direction of the motor as if you were unscrewing something, then pull the trigger. If your hand does not grasp the chuck tight enough it will slip, hence the glove. If this does not work you may have to hold the front of the chuck in a vice or with caliper pliers and again the pull the trigger with the drill in reverse.
All this depends on what you used to put the drill bit in with your hand tight or held onto it with something else. Whatever was used should be enough to loosen the chuck
Hope this helps.
If it does let fix ya know.
Cheers
