This could relate back to your computer

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they might be faulty

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd have secure dust free connections and are not faulty even the electical extensions

even something as small as an electrical fan and its lead can cause you problems or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs all electrical power and data to continue through every working device and to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

make sure your graphics card is securely seated with no dust built up or in the socket

if you remove your graphics check the socket to make sure its dust free

restart your computer then reinstall it this should activate found new hardware wizard

hope this helps you

Your video settings may actually be out of range of the monitor.
Try starting the computer in safe mode. This will provide basic video without anything fancy. Reset the settings to a lower resolution from the display option in the control panel (or simply right-click on the desktop).
If the display works then, restart the computer and then try different settings from Windows, not the monitor itself.

Ahhh--that's the answer. Your backlight has gone bad. The LCD screens are backlit with a flourescent light. If that burns out, you get the effect that you described--you can see the image but only by shining a light on it.
The good thing is that it can be repaired. If you feel like tackling it, you can change the tube (but you need to take it apart and get the part). If electronics repair isn't your thing, just have a computer shop do it for you.

Monitor displays "Controls Locked"

This is a "feature" they include to prevent accidental changes to the screen setup. You should be able to unlock the OSD by pushing the Menu button and the right arrow button together for about three seconds. The message "controls unlocked" should appear.
