Hello You have to contact the Magellan Technical support to upgrade this device. Even for a battery replacement too, you can't do it by yourself. It can also be done at the Authorised Service Center for Magellan at your town, as its user manual says. OK.
if you just bought this, im sure the voice should be unlocked already since its part of the advertised features of the 3250. it should also have the live traffic feature for up to one year.
you can call Magellan here Hours: Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. PST/PDT
Telephone: 800 707 9971
When I talked with Magellan tech support they told me the GPS would not be recognized until the unit was sent in to be repaired. The screen was frozen on the start up screen. When asked how much it would cost, they said they had a customer loyalty program and would sell me a new GPS or a refurbished one if I sent in my old one. They could not just repair mine. The cost was more than a new unit on e-bay. No more Magellan products for me.
I had the same problem, magellan would not give me a code for the map to just download but did agree to send me a new unit and then have me send back the old ubit after verifiying my receipt. did have to give them a credit card # to make sure I send back the old gps
I would avoid map updates from Magellan like the plague. They have a strange way of frying the units. Unless you want to be without your GPS and fighting with Magellan for months, leave the map software the way it is.
