Could be a faulty power supply. Try getting a universal replacement and see if that works. Take the laptop to a computer store and see if they have one for you to try before you buy.
plugged into mains as in plugged into power in wall? since we don't have a model number can you check to see if there's a power switch or button on the back of that drive?
Make sure the switch at the back of unit is in the on position! its right near the power cord..You can down load the info you want at HP http://welcome.hp.com/country/ca/en/support.html
Remove everything from the board except the front panel hookups.Make sure you remove memory, video card, hard drive and cdrom cables, hard drive and cdrom power, anything plugged into the back except the power. If it will power up this way start plugging things back in between power cycles. Start with memory then power down. Then add video then power down. Continue with Cdrom, then hard drives. When it stopps wanting to power on you know where the issue lies. If it wont power on with nothing on it then the motherboard is probably bad. Hope this helps.
I have the exact same problem.
TV was working fine (if you call having to deal with blinking lights of death and multiple starrt up errors...) - but I powered through it all.
This TV is 6 years old and started acting up after the 4-year extended warranty ran out.
This morning I went to turn it on and nothing.
Hmmm... Got my manual to count the blinking light code...
Whoops. No lights. Nothing. Checked plug. Checked power.
Uninstalled and installed lamp. Checked plug and power again.
Nothing.
Not one stinking light. No power to fan. Nothing.
Not uncommon... the power switching chip that regulates standby and other power regulation to the board must be faulty or fried. Must replace motherboard.. Try removing battery.. sometimes batteries will short or try to draw too much power and put the chip on the fritz..
will not power up
I have a AKAI 2716 LCD that will not power on anymore, when you press the power on the led just blicks for the power.
